Tragically, I think that the most likely scenario is a fractured or broken tibia.

See here for some miserable viewing and reading: http://orthoinfo.aaos.org/topic.cfm?topic=A00522

Executive summary - he could be out for 4 to 6 months.

On the other hand, he could have done a toenail, and be back for the Arse.

Really, it looked like he went over on his ankle rather than broke his leg.

Either way i'm hoping for the best.

Of course I desperately hope to be proven wrong here, but I thought the ankle twist was the result of Valencia's studs making contact with Anita's tibia. A definite yellow as I saw it.

I thought it was a red thb, Valencia was nowhere near the ball and had his studs showing off the ground. I suppose it could be about angles but looked red to me.

Tibia? Ankle? Knee? Any other bidders?

We'll just have to wait and see, and hope that the final diagnosis is "only" a bad dream, instead of the absolute nightmare it could turn out to be :(

Hoping for bruising and fit for the weekend ;)

Perhaps a borderline yellow / red? That is, yellow if the foul was committed by one of our players, and red if it was by one of their's ;)

Never a straight red in a million years imo, but a clear yellow.

Need to see it again but it looked like he jumped in a bit high. Like i say though replay needed to inspect it a little closer.

Pardew said they haven't scanned it, but he might be out of saturday. Doesn't sound too serious tbh, just wish it wasn't our best midfield player out against Arsenal.

The fact he says 'might' be out for Saturday should be enough to believe it won't be a 4-6 month job at the very least scan or no scan.

Seems like I may have been too hasty with my doomsday diagnosis. I put it down to all those years watching Kieron Dyer break his neck due to an unexpected gust of wind at St James's ... typically, during the warm-up.

But seriously, I'll remain nervous until the scan results come back.

Is that because all of our players either come back on time or early?

Well more that if he's a doubt for Saturday it suggest he's not dying or paralysed.

Looked like it was an ankle, and when you roll one the lateral ligament is the one which is buggered

Hopefully there are no other complications, and it's just a grade 1 strain (a couple of weeks out)

Grade 2 tear, it's 4-6 weeks. I had a lateral tear which a specialist categorised as a 2 and a1/2 on the scale of 1-3 they use- it nearly went all the way through, so i missed the full six weeks

And it took a little while to trust the joint again, when pivoting off it/changing direction.

It was a clear yellow and easily could have been red. The look on Valencia's face suggested to me that he knew it was a bad challenge. Valencia has been on the wrong end before which made the challenge a but worse for me.

I done mine when i was very young and was out for nearly 6 months, mind you we don't get operations to sort them out i suppose.
