It's not a strange bid though is it? €4m?

Exactly. In 9 months time he'll be worth zero.

No point going in high straight away, he knows we're interested and can let it ride for a month. See how things work out as a better CH may become available? Who knows.

Not too pushed about getting this one sorted ASAP, as long as Taylor and Colo are fit to start the season we don't need our new CB too urgently. So happy enough for us to scrounge a bit, the closer it gets to the deadline the more they'll be pressured into selling.

Debuchy on the other hand could do with getting signed soon.

Now SSN are reporting bid "in excess of £4m".  But they don't seem to be reporting it as a new bid so maybe its just a mistake?

EDIT: Yeah must be a mistake, the txt bit says £4m but the reporter still said 4m Euro's.

Surely there must be other interest for him at this price.

We got Tiote for only a few hundred grand more from the same club didn't we?

Remember WBA being interested at the time but nobody really other than that.

There are! 8 others, one of which is bigger than nufc ;)

It'll probably be rejected but i've no problem with us testing the waters with an offer like this, considering his contract situation there. It's not an un-sensible or an 'insulting' offer.

FC Twente boss Steve McClaren has spoken about Newcastle United's bid for Brazilian defender Douglas.

McClaren dismissed the bid saying:"The bid has came, it came with the signature of the Ashley. We see the bid, the bid hasn't come down very well with the people's of Twente, we see the bid but don't come to the bid in good ways. I see money but not much of it, you see more money in the corner shop, or the job center, McClaren laughed.
