Can't be faulted today. We were missing a lot of first team players, and lost another 15 minutes in. Thought the reshuffle stifled us, but was necessary. We had a lot of players in their half earlier on, with Sissoko looking more of a threat coming from deep. The changes resulted in it being back to just Cisse and Moussa +1, and the first half fizzled out. Thought we came out to the second half looking very purposeful in our attacking though, with Marveaux and Anita having one of their best games for us. Glad he took Simpson off as that allowed us to keep the pace of our counter attacks throughout the team, rather than coming to a stand still with his every touch.

Fully deserved win and some class scenes at the end. Hope this gives him the encouragement to attack the Benfica and mackems games.

I've got little doubt that we'll be attacking in both, it's the games after that where things might change.

Today shows just how wrong he's been so far this season, if we were used to playing the way we did today we would be much higher up the league than we currently are.

Why couldn't he have had this attitude from the start?

cos he didnt have the players? he went into the season under manned and the added workload of the EL- just a thought like.

That doesn't make sense.

You can have such a positive attitude and tactics no matter what the personnel are.  Look at how entertaining Blackpool were to watch in their season up with what was the worst squad in the league.

having more better players gives you an opportunity to play better attacking football doesnt make sense?

Showing a positive attitude and attacking tactics is nothing to do with personnel.  Anycase we had the players to play attacking football at the start of the season.

This is true.

This is my hope, we could really salvage something from this pig's ear of a season in the next 7 days.

I thought today we showed glimpses of decent stuff in the first half and had the better of it but it was pretty uninspiring on the whole, 45-70 minutes we absolutely blitzed them and could have scored 3 or 4 in that period alone.  When Shola came on I wasn't that impressed tbh, we reverted to long/medium high diagonal balls into the box in the hope something would bounce our way and it was a bit desperate.  Thankfully we had another surge towards the end which led to the goal.

I'm happy with our attitude today and therefore can't argue with Pardew's performance on the whole.  Did pretty well but I'd admittedly have been fuming if we'd drawn it because it would have been another hard luck story that left us in the shit.  I'd back us to stay up now but we're not out of the woods yet of course.

Was having a drink with Disco after the match, he said imagine if he'd jumped into the section Mick and Wullie were sitting in. They'd have beat the crap out of him

Almost spit my pint out.

Wouldn't have blamed Wullie smacking him. We drag ourselves out of a shit situation that he's responsible for and he manages to seek attention and play the hero of the piece. Shouldn't be in this position to start with.

He's one step away from grabbing a mic to sing, a la Phil Brown. Similar ego.

Worth pointing out that the home fans chanted his name again today during the second half. Personally still undecided on him long term but that's only a good thing IMO.

 I agree with the sentiment but I just think it was pure relief today, you'd like to think he has enough humility to acknowledge his own failings but who knows, probably not.  Can't really blame him for getting caught up in the moment today, we were so close to a crushing result and the relief just hit him like a train and he went apeshit.

There should be nothing but unwavering support at the match. On here is different, you can be honest.

Agree but at the moment any Alan Pardew related songs would personally be my cue to give my voice a rest.

Not sure anyone can ague with his starting XI at all and I think we  suffered a fair bit when Santon went off but  we toiled hard & even though the subs were debatable he was picking from a bad bunch. At least we  went for it properly second half which was great to see but fuck me I'd prefer us to win not in the last 5. My heart ain't up to it.

There's a few that sing it where I am but you get probably just as many having a good pop at Pardew at random points during games.  My favourite was someone calling him Stevie Wonder.

Also it should be we hate fascists not Sunderland now.

Having spent too much time on here, it restored my faith in humanity hearing 'Alan Pardew's black & white army' ring around St James'.

I'm sure it was only the Gallowgate Corner singing it and I heard a few near me end it with "We have Pardew" instead of Sunderland.

Not sure he meant to seek anything to be fair. Just caught up in the moment, and I can't blame him for that.
