They can't be completely rubbish. I don't think we'll be taking them lightly, just the Chelsea game's two days later we'll probably need to use as many players as we can get away with. So if we want him for chelsea i doubt he will be able to feature in this game. I think this will be game where we try to just get through and then play a stronger team in the home leg. Shola is out mate. pardew has been quoted about obertan playing up front True but Sammy played a lot up there in pre season, just a guess but i think it'll be him up top. ohmelads Posted August 18, 2012 Share Posted August 18, 2012 I think he'll gamble with a team entirely of fringe/backup players. We don't really have a choice with Chelsea 2 days later. The likes of Williamson, Perch, Marveaux Obertan, Raylor, Gosling, and Ameobi (if fit) are all experienced players. Add in the likes of Bigi, Vuckic, Sammy, Abeid, Amalfitano, Ferguson, Tavernier and Good and we can certainly put an XI together which doesn't affect our starting team for Chelsea. Then put a few key players on the bench to come on and strengthen us if need be. We have no choice but to rely heavily on these fringe players this season. Hopefully they will step up, and if anything they will be much more motivated than stars who are saving themselves for Chelsea. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

One blemish on the afternoon's work was an injury sustained by Shola Ameobi in the warm-up, which saw the striker replaced by Romain Amalfitano on the substitutes' bench.
