Shak
Johnny 5 - I Need A Hero JonE5 takes down another person who dares to try and see the positives in Ba moving on and a different type of player replacing him. Let's say that the person in the boat is... I don't know... Sewelly, for example.

Mistle17
Not really. We'll obviously be a lot better at the back, but selling arguably the best striker in the league is a massive step back. We all know what Cisse is capable of but I think that Demba's a better player overall and with his goals makes him an invaluable player. This is absolute horseshit. Just typical of this regime that we can't ever build a proper squad to compete, it's all about minimising costs and operating on a shoestring. Interpolic
See, that's why this thread is so stupid. "Well we'll be better at the back... but we'll be weaker up front. Wey, that's what I think anyway".

Shak
Anyway, answer to the question is no IMO. If it's Debuchy and a replacement for Ba then yes. Cisse will improve playing centrally IMO and the advantage of Debuchy over Simpson is massive. That should more than offset the downgrade we'll almost certainly have as Ba's replacement likely won't be as good as he's been. But a straight trade and no other incomings leaves us very short up top IMO.

Beren
I know it's a pet peeve of some posting formations in advance of players coming/going, but: Krul Debuchy Williams Colo Santon Tiote Cabaye HBA Anita Marv Cisse How much better, after a simple change, does that look? HBA has someone who will make overlapping runs, and more astoundingly, can actually whip the ball in without it gathering snow once he does release the ball... which also means one less defender marking HBA, because they actually have someone to mark. It also means Santon is able to switch the play with cross-field balls, without the ball going back immediately to Tim Krul to hoof out under pressure. It's the small things, guys. Mick
Signing Debuchy and losing Ba doesn't make us stronger, we'll not even see the best of Debuchy if Williamson is playing in the centre of our defence. Debuchy is a slight upgrade on Simpson as a defender but pisses on him going forward. Like Simpson though, he'll get caught out of position as times and we'll have a hole at the back because of it. When that happens we'll be relying on Williamson to defend and that'll not go well. Debuchy, Cabaye and Ben Arfa on our right side should be brilliant if we can replace Williamson with a competent defender and replace Ba.
Guest
I think we'll be more balanced with Cisse in the middle, HBA right and Marveaux/new signing left with Debuchy right-back. Reliant on Cisse getting goals regularly again before we can say if we're stronger. Also relying on Debuchy actually being good.

BONTEMPI
Voted no, but that would change to a yes if Remy comes and Douglas then think it would benefit our play. Ishmael
Stronger maybe More balanced yes If I had bothered to put any effort into setting this thread up this is the course I would have steered it towards. Being quiet lazy with this, I opted against it safe in the knowledge that - ignoring all the simpletons who instantly dismissed the debate - it would eventually come up. I genuinely believe that this player swap makes us much stronger. The reason, as has been said: balance. There was an article a while back that discussed how the better teams attacked evenly across the width of the pitch. Play can go down the left or the right at will, which is something that with Simpson we couldn't do, as his ridiculously limited game hinders any incisive build up play. With a better right back, we can go down both sides and therefore should create more opportunities. Also, Cisse is no mug.
