So everyone in France is essentially telling us he's shit and Cabella's class? Great stuff.

Cabella would be class in the French league where he's less likely to get clattered every time he receives the ball. Thauvin hopefully will be better suited to the premier.

Stephen Ireland would look class as a playmaker in the French league.  Cabella is another Bruno "Next Zidane" Cheyrou who should just stay in France where he can have all the time in the world on the ball.  Cabella will turn 26 this season too, he isn't a 19 year old Christiano Ronaldo or something.  Cabella lacks the agression and determination that the likes of Hazard, Silva, Arnautovic, Payet etc have.  Hopefully Thauvin has a bit more about him.

The whole thing with Thauvin not wanting to track back was more because Biesla played that funky formation where the wide men were essentially wing backs right? From what I remember anyway. That is to say there were no full backs in the system. So it worked like a 3-5-2 would essentially.

So it's quite different from him playing wide in a standard setup, and just having to track the full back on the other team defensively.

Dunno why, he's clearly talented and they never did the same with Ben Arfa and Cabella. Spoke of other things but they never denied their ability.

It's a bit of a strange one, i have seen him play before and he's definitely not shit. Although not much in the last year or so mind, where he's apparently had a stinker.

Don't get why our own fans are moaning about this so much, yes we do need defenders but we have looked fucking shit going forward for about two years now so more players like Thauvin shouldn't be sniffed at.

Not only am I happy with this, but I would also be fine with another striker as has been rumoured this morning. All good with me.

I can only see us buying a Left Back or a cheap Right back cover now. They won't buy a new CB as they just bought Mbemba and see Colo as starting captain first name on team sheet. Then got Taylor, Williamson and Laschelles as cover.

They might line up a good left back, and it might be a tactic of buying thauvin and the others first to show the new LB we mean business etc?

Good bit of business IMO . One of the reasons a lot of people in France don't rate him is because of that business with Lille, and the fact that he plays for Marseille. A lot of Marseille fans that I know are dissapointed to see him leave, as when he got a decent run in the team he scored a few goals and set up a load of chances.

From the Youtube videos, Thauvin looks like he could well be an upgrade on Cabella and should definitely be one on Obertan.

We look a long way off a team where Cabella could thrive, so it's not a bad idea to cut our losses.

I hope we'll see plenty of Ayoze and Aarons too.

I was excited when we were link to Thauvin as he was moving from Bastia in 2013. He was almost a carbon copy of Ben Arfa. However, now I am slightly deflated, due to the fact Cabella is going and that it's taken us so long to convince him to come. I honestly believe had Bielsa not left OM this season, that Thauvin would have stayed. Especially when you consider we have had to offer OM money that they deem as "irrefusable".

On the positive side, he's more suited to playing on the wing, he's left footed which will create some balance if he plays LW. He can take players on, can score, cross and take a decent freekick. Which is something we miss badly. More so, since Ryan "deadball specialist" Taylor left.

And of the recent videos/highlights I have watched, he has seem to have matured ever so slightly with his game. At Bastia it was all about dribbling ridiculous distances and not playing the pass. Now he seems very accomplished with some of his crossing, and definitely his cut backs to pick out players arriving on the edge of the area. He also tore Amavi apart home and away last season. And he's going to be a decent LB for Villa long term.

Florian think we've found ourselves a left winger,

He is always right there when we need him.

...I'll get me coat
