I've got my hopes up that we can win this considering their form and our morale improvement, but had previously chalked this game off as a loss (before the signings) Standard form for NUFC, it's the hope that hurts the most. On a serious note, a lot of my chelsea mates have told me they think it'll be a draw - their confidence is low, hopefully we can come out fighting. You are never going to get football mercenaries from another country feeling the same about NUFC as NE born players, or even other Brits....both Supermac and Rob Lee have an abiding love for the club despite being southerners. They might tell a few home truths about the club but so what ? They gave 100% whilst playing for us and were great players who were a credit to the club. I've got my hopes up that we can win this considering their form and our morale improvement, but had previously chalked this game off as a loss (before the signings) I think it depends on our performance - if we play well and only lose by the odd goal, people will accept that it takes a while for new players to bed in but if we lose badly and play poorly with lousy subs etc, there will be more rumblings from the fans - Pardew has to start delivering and that means at least some attacking football at SJP and no meek surrenders. Compare him to the likes of Cabaye, Ben Arfa and Cisse, when they leave they'll be full of praise for the club and city, Ba didn't care one bit for us. There's plenty of people from home soil who only care for the money, and we've had many a foreigner who have had a genuine affinity to the club/area. Rich Posted February 2, 2013 Share Posted February 2, 2013 Even if he does pick the same team and the expected torrent of abuse comes his way, we've got to at least hope that having Marveaux and Obertan added to the bench can be something of a difference-maker if required. Along with Yanga-Mbiwa, Anita and Shola those two would give us the best pool of options we've had for ages and it may mean that some of Pardew's decisions aren't so baffling. I'm as excited for this as I have been for a match all season. Not sure there's a better time to play Chelsea and we'll undoubtedly be on a high after clinging on at Villa. But the Senegalese striker will simply not be blown off course. Less than a month after his move to Chelsea, Ba returns to Newcastle on Saturday, aware that he will not be the most popular man in St James’ Park. None of it matters, not a jot. For Ba, moving to Chelsea was not a choice - it was an obligation. “Newcastle is going to be a big game for me but I won’t let the occasion go overboard,” promised Ba, already a popular figure in SW6 after scoring three times for the Blues in his first four starts. “Whenever you join a club you look at the schedule to see when you can play the team you left. So I knew straightaway it would be coming fast for me to go back to St James’ Park. “But that’s not the most important thing. At the end of the day, it’s only another game, three points, nothing more than that.” Ba scored 29 goals in just 57 appearances for the Toon, not a bad return for a free signing from relegated West Ham. Ba, though, recognised a familiar pattern - one he went through at his previous club as well. “I was there for 18 months and I’m still very surprised at their position,” he added. “But what happened at Newcastle, where you’re dominating games and winning and all of a sudden you concede a goal and it all changes, has happened since I came here as well. “It’s not a lack of confidence but football is never finished until the last whistle. I was on the bench and after 75 minutes I was watching Reading and thinking, ‘These guys are done; they don’t even think they’re going to come back’. “You could see the body language of the players but all of a sudden we brought them back in the game. As soon as they scored they knew they had a big chance to come back. “Now we have to push on, to try to win everything we can win. You can be sure that’s what we will do. “Chelsea is a club which should be in the Champions League every season, which should finish in the top four every season, should be in the title race. This is the focus of everyone, to finish on top.” Nobody can doubt Ba’s focus. Nothing today will deflect him away from it.
