Tottenham 2 - 1 Newcastle United - 09/02/13 - post-match reaction from page 50

Funny how people said that Krul's positioning was at fault when Baines, from almost exactly the same position as Bale, leathered it into the top left hand corner at SJP, whilst Bale put it into the bottom right. How can a goalkeeper possibly get his positioning "right" in that scenario? It's not physically possible to stand in one particular position which makes it easy to save any free kick no matter where it's placed or how hard it's hit.

That's why there's a wall there, to make one side much more difficult to put it in with the goalkeeper covering the other. Our wall could have stopped it and failed - everyone laughed at Nasri against Man Utd when he didn't simply move his foot to stop RvP's free kick, Perch was exactly the same. Bale's free kick needed to be something special to get up and down from that position - it wasn't but still did.

I can't believe I'm having to explain this tbh.

The free kick yesterday was hardly lathered (like Baines') it bounced just inside the six yard box and went in halfway up the post, if he get's beaten top corner fine, nowt you can do with them. He had 25 yards to react and he "nearly" got there, stands one foot to his left and he keeps it out, as he is paid to do (but hasn't done much of over this season tbh).

Perch get's the s*** becasue he's James Perch, who was also better than Tiote (when he came on) yesterday.

It's laughable, the "s***" players get all the s*** the "sexy" players get a free pass, objectivity leaves the room.

Get lost man, it has nothing to do with his reputation. Perch just isn't a very good footballer, and Krul wouldn't have needed to throw himself at the ball had Perch acted as a PL player should. I'm not saying he's at fault for us losing, but the first goal is more Colo and Perch's fault than Krul ffs.

Perch has clearly been our weakest link in the last three games of all our starters. He has been a top 2 bad performer in each and everyone of those games. I guess Colo made a case yesterday, but he has still been a top 2 worst performer for 3 straight games. Tiote thrives in games like yesterday, and we saw times and times again why Tiote should've been started ahead of Perch.

Perch main aim yesterday was to break up play, give defense cover and start up play easily. He did none of them, so much that Holtby had 2 or 3 chances in the opening 30minutes to curl a ball from inside the area.

To tell me it's all about 's***' and 'sexy' is f***ing ridiculous.

We lost to a better side yesterday, but for me it's pretty clear. Perch and Colo for the 1st goal and Saylor and Colo for the 2nd goal.

Perch better than Tiote yesterday

Tiote came on and instantly looked 10x the player, it's ridiculous he didn't start.

i think tiote being there affected perch, just didnt looked arsed, like he knew whats coming.

And when Tiote wasn't there last week against Chelsea and Perch gave Chelsea something like 3 dangerous attacks because of terrible passing and sloppy in possesion? Was that because he knew Tiote might be on the way back? Perch is a decent player, but he is nowhere near a starter for a PL side even a relegation team. He has no business starting in the PL.

Aye and I remember in the Aston Villa game Perch was giving tonnes of room a seemingly in form N'Zogbia who was operating between the lines. Having a holding player in midfield should counteract players in that space, but Perch is not tactically aware enough to prevent this. It's silly playing him as a holding role when he's not going to prevent no 10s slipping in between the ranks.

You've all obviously never played football before. The wall decide before the kick is taken if they're going to jump or not, if anyone's at fault it's jonas cos he did exactly the opposite to the rest. You either all jump, or none jump. We know they talked about it so they'd decided not to jump. Perch did nowt wrong

Let's get this right from your point of view, the person to blame for the goal was the only person who made an attempt to get to the ball.   You don't either jump or not jump.  As a defender you keep your eye on the ball and react to whatever happens, like Jonas did.  If Jonas can see where the ball is going and can react then Perch should have been able to react.

As for never having played football, give over.

thats if you think jonas reacted to the ball as opposed to deciding to jump regardless.

I agree. Bale obviously did hit it very sweetly and it had the right dip and swerve to squeeze in the bottom corner. But Perch jumps and he would have blocked it. IIRC half the wall did jump?

That's a wind up surely?

Jonas' fault man, Christ. Perch didn't even make an attempt once the ball was hit and clearly not going under him, either out of stupidity or cowardice. He literally stood still.

You could make an argument that even if he did jump he still wouldn't have had time to get anything on it, but he didn't even try, it was embarrassing.

Jonas, like the other 3 in the wall were watching the ball and he (Jonas) reacted, he even tilted his neck and head towards the ball in an attempt to get it.  He was clearly going for the ball which was going over the head of Perch.

You can tell that things have got better recently because people are having a blazing row about whether or not a the wall should have jumped or not!

Jesus Christ, is it really worth it? It's really unlike Perch not to put his body on the line and you can bet your arse that he'll jump the next time he's in a wall, problem solved, let's move on to things that actually matter in some way, eh?

It really seems as if there's always a negative cloud floating around the place nowadays, that people will never be happy and will always have something to moan about regardless of what's actually happening at the club. If things are going well in their usual pet-hate area then they'll just move onto something else, until they can go back to it later. For example, where are all the people who were saying with absolute conviction that we weren't going to sign anyone in the window and that all our best players were going to leave? They're either keeping quiet for a bit, or have moved on to something else for a bit, but you can guarantee that they'll be back in the summer and regardless of whether or not their predictions of doom come true they'll return once more next xmas. Why put all that effort into being miserable? You'll just get to the end of your life and realise that you didn't enjoy the fleeting moments of good fortune that you'll get as a Newcastle fan because you were too obsessively focussed on the rest. Anyway...

Not sure if anyone else has a more appropriate smily named after them...

Yes I'm blaming Perch because he's Perch, not because the ball went half an inch over his head and he stood still. If it had gone over Cabaye's, I would have also blamed Perch.

Get a grip of yourself you sad act.

Never a truer word spoken (or typed out tbh)

You will get negativity in a match thread when we've lost and you'll get positivity when we've won.

"Predictions of doom" as you put it Indi, were correct in the summer then you vanished from the football forum in the main so that's a bit rich.

The likes of myself and Dave are here all the time so the idea that people who don't trust the board vanish when the club do something well is such a load of shit. The other way round is certainly true though. Several of Ashley's fans left this forum for a year when we went down.

thing is, you say that as if it's been proved definitivly that not getting players in the summer was the problem and not crap tactics.

The reality is that both played a part, not one or the other.
