Honest question (fearing backlash) -

Do managers learn, grow, adapt, etc? ie - Do we think Pardew has grown and will learn from this experience? We know he has failed at previous clubs, but was never given the time to right his wrongs. Is it possible that he learns and will be stronger from it? or is the consensus that it will be exactly the same as this season and we are doomed?

It's whether he's allowed to. Does he have free reign to alter coaching teams/recruit, hire/fire considering the financial implications?

Good point, guess the question then is, as a team, will they learn and improve?

From a Mike/Dekka perspective, I would say that on the whole, they are making micro-improvements, and learning....

I live and hope that as a group, them come together, and learn/grow.

I would normally agree, people in general can grow and adapt to situations, learn from mistakes and change certain things about themselves. However, having read message boards from Charlton, Southampton and West Ham it's clear that history is repeating itself with frightening accuracy, from the tactics down to the playing players out of position and strange substitutes. If he hasn't changed in 8 years, why would he after one season?

This guy is going to get himself sacked during the review in the next 48hrs. He's just too stupid. He'll say something foolish, like keep demanding experienced players.

No way Ashley is going to sway from that blueprint of younger, higher re-sale value players though. Certainly not for this baboon of a manager. I think he'll get booted out. He's a moron.

Managers like Pardew will sit down and look at this season and rather than look at his decisions, tactics, team selections etc. as to why we have had a poor season, he will instead look at all the extra games and injuries we have had and poor refereeing decisions. He will then analyse all the stats and just as HF has been pointing out on here he'll see that we have played fewer long balls as the season wore on, had more shots inside the box than half the league etc. so things haven't been all too bad and he will come to the conclusion that next season will be better because we'll have fewer games to play, players will come back from injury and play more next season and of course signing new players will help to.

The tactics, the decisions, the team selection, the lack of movement, the poor set pieces, none of that will change remotely and that's why the likes of Pardew, just like Souness, Roeder et al are poor managers and will never do well at Newcastle.

Sir Bobby on the other hand, he looked at his tactics, he looked at players and how their game could be changed or adapted, he was constantly evolving his ideas and sides and that's why he was a success. He didn't blame extra games, injuries or bad luck and poor referring decisions. The same applied with KK and even Hughton to an extent.

So in short, no Pardew will not learn from his mistakes because to him our season isn't down to him or his tactics/methods.

It's started already

“We’re one of those clubs where we’re liable to lose one of our great players to a Champions League team through finance and sometimes the will of the player,” Pardew told the Gazette.

“You can’t keep a player who doesn’t want to stay.

“Having said that, it’s going to be very difficult for any club to get a player out of here unless it’s a serious or big bid.”

He's such a gobsh*te, he really is.

Pardew saying this is becoming a cliché in its own right.

Maybe he gets a % of profit on sales. Could explain why is so keen to tell the whole f*cking world we've got players up for grabs the minute the season's over.

He called Ashley brave for not selling anyone last summer so I strongly doubt that.

He can still fuck off with those comments, as usual. The biggest coward I've seen at the club, everything about him revolves around fear.

I wonder what Ashley is thinking. Is he pissed off that he had to splash out in January? Is he even more pissed that we still almost went? If he likes Carr as much as we hear he does, does he have to choose a side?

I reckon this could go either way tbh.

Managers can always learn, but there's not much you can do about basic decision making stupidity. Mind boggling subs, inability to adapt to other manager's changes, picking a subs bench without including enough options, picking too many defensive midfielders then not having any clarity on their roles.... how many of those things can he put right before changing his mind and going back to square one after a negative result?

Managers can learn from their mistakes but they don't change their mentality, if Pardew got better tactically next year he'll still be a spineless coward that'll set us up to defend in the second half if we have the lead.

To be fair to Pardew, I'd imagine it's pretty difficult to learn anything when you're busy licking windows.
