brummie
Erm....didn't Doug Ellis invent the bicycle kick? I was about to say the same thing. Doug genuinely does think he invented the bicycle kick.
Village Idiot
That said, I for a single moment don't believe that nobody thought about kicking the ball overhead until a good 50-60 years after the sport was invented.

Dr Venkman
Ossie Ardiles is on 5Live now. Talking about how managing in the Premier League is all about the fear of losing your job, leading to too many teams just getting everyone behind the ball. Deuce
Heard this story on the Men in Blazers pod, not sure if it's true. There was an elite U10 team from Westchester, New York (an affluent suburb of NYC) who traveled into the city to play a friendly against another youth team last summer. It was up to the home side to supply a ref so they trotted out this bald dude. Guy spent the game ref'ing, but also giving tips to players on both teams. Parents of the visiting team gave this guy hell, told him to piss off as they thought he was throwing the game. Guy pulled a and walked away. It was Pep Guardiola. newsted
Jonathan Norcroft on that annoying Sunday Supplement show said there's a fans' group up in arms that we haven't signed more French players. Is that a real thing or is he just making stuff up, as they all do, and his buddies will just add that to the list of lies they all believe and will repeat? If he hadn't specified French then undoubtedly true, but it was in a discussion about quotas of Englishmen, so his point was definitely that they had to be French. Cajun
He probably heard some fans were pissed off we didn't manage to get Gomis and Thauvin 'over the line' and twisted it into the fans being angry we didn't sign more French players.
newsted
That's what I reckoned. Generally speaking, journalists on that show are dreadful self-important liars.
