BlueStar
Beckham goes Harper Seven, Carroll goes Wolf Nine. Makes sense, the fucking moron. I look forward to welcoming Apple Twenty-Three Ameobi into the world.

sbnufc
Andy Carroll must be stopped before he does real damage... the West Ham striker leads with the arm far too often and it may lead to a life-changing clash http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-5101751/Andy-Carroll-stopped-does-real-damage.html
Kimbo
Does Carroll really do anything that didn't happen in every game in the 90s? Strikers would get kicked and battered and they would batter the defenders back. Fanny sport these days!
Guest firetotheworks
Yeah, he elbows players directly in the face. That was a red card in the '90s and probably earlier.

Kimbo
I think it's an exaggeration that he always does it anyway, I don't think he does it any more than Fellaini always has, and our hero wasn't exactly innocent. Anyway I'm not in favour of elbowing, but the lack of physical play between defenders and forwards is a problem IMO, even less and we're getting close to netball. Guest firetotheworks
He's done it four times really badly in his last two appearances like. I agree that he hasn't always been like that, but I commented in the other games thread during the West Ham Watford match about him going full on radge recently. Infinitely Content
Didn't Shearer do the same thing? Seem to remember a pretty bad one against Charlton... Suppose it comes down to intent or perceived intent though. Tough call to make for refs, but I think 'dangerous play' without harmful intent is taken more seriously in the last 5 years or so that it was previously. I'd like to think Carroll isn't going round purposefully elbowing players in the face like.
Guest firetotheworks
I don't think he's doing that, but he's very much leading with his arm which is the same thing by the modern laws of the game IF you catch someone. Carroll's caught a few players recently and when you see them they're pretty indefensible like.
xLiaaamx
Remarkable that as well as nearly taking someone's head off every time he plays, he's still never been as good as he was for us anywhere else.

Figures 1-0 Football
Cant believe he’s not in prison like, it’s disgusting. Hopefully the game will be completely sterilised soon so that players cant tackle or head the ball.

You must be a fanny if you don't want your nose broken Ironic that this conversation is happening when one of our total legends was famous for having flailing elbows Carroll is a big physical lad, he’s also tall and will get a good jump. He’s using his arms and elbows for leverage and to get players out of the way, he’s not intentionally hurting anyone. He’s played like this for his entire career, yet it’s only become a problem since the Burnley game. If he whacks someone in the face, on purpose or by accident - fine, book him or send him off. But the state of that article man.
steve_69
When you look at all of the incidents, Carroll never breaks eyes with the ball. He may know the opposing player is there but there's no intent to injure at all IMO. He's just hellbent on winning the ball and goes in fully committed. The thing that Carroll seems to do more than others, probably because of his superior height, is jump in at an angle and usually from a distance to win a header because he knows he can. He's rarely jumping straight up, a move that requires less balance adjustment and carries less momentum. He's also a good deal taller than most of the players he's challenging so naturally they're more in line with his arms when he jumps. I challenge anyone to leap sideways, forwards or backwards at an angle without using their arms for balance. You'll hit the deck almost every time and probably injure yourself. To ask Carroll to stop doing what he's been doing recently is essentially asking him to stop challenging for so many headers - he might as well jack football in now if that's the case. Players have always picked up head/facial injuries throughout the history of football because it's a physical contact sport where professionals put their bodies on the line. The last thing the new breed of pussy footballers need is more protection FFS, and if we sterilise the game any more than it already has been it won't be worth watching any more. We might as well watch netball.
