Andy Carroll (now playing for Bordeaux)

Recommended Posts

We should soon know whether Newcastle’s physio team will be working overtime this season as the club really need to make up their mind about Andy Carroll by the end of the day.

Considering the former West Ham striker - who, to Alan Pardew’s horror, departed Newcastle for Liverpool for £35m on transfer deadline day January 2011 - is currently a free agent that may seem puzzling but Premier League rules preclude Steve Bruce leaving any gaps in his 25 man squad which must be submitted to the ruling body tomorrow.

So it’s make your mind up time over Andy. He underwent ankle surgery earlier this year and is apparently recovering well but the club are trying to determine the likelihood of how many games he could potentially be match fit for between now and January.

If, the 30-year-old stayed fit it could be an inspired move; at his best Carroll is unplayable and it is no surprise his situation was one of the first checked out by Bruce as soon as he moved into Rafa Benitez’s old office.

But it is, undeniably, a very big if !

Happy for him. He never actually asked to leave.

Hope he can prove his fitness and they can come up with a program to manage and maintain it.

If they're smart about things, he'll be a useful option and contributor this season.

I don't see him being fit enough to score many goals so the only other reason i can see us signing him would be a PR stunt to get more tickets sold. Ant and Dec were probably next on the list to get disgruntled fans back onside. It seems to be a masterstroke by Ashley and Bruce.

30 years old and injury prone, ignore the fact he's from here and its an awful signing

Exactly, considering our strike force is really lacking in goals in the PL currently.

Aye. A garbage buy and typical of NUFC under Ashley.

Imagine trying to get Rafa to sign off on this bullshit man .

I don’t hold anything against Carroll. Wish him well, though he’s pretty much finished at this level.

What’s irritating will be all the happy clappers getting in line like good little soldiers to exalt Ashley for bringing this “good Geordie lad home.”

Carroll will sign and Gayle will probably be sold before the day is out.  We break even on money in/out.......guess who wins again.

Aye and all we'll get in the press is how the fat cunt broke the record and spent his own money.

I'm beyond negative about all NUFC related stuff. I'm completely and utterly sick of it.

I really need to give the whole thing up.

Even if he was over his injuries (he's not). He's a player who relied solely on physicality to be effective. He hasn't played for ages and his body wont be the same as it was, it will be a disaster. Add to the fact he can now go see all his mates in town, hardly a good combo

I don't think there'll be a single person who doesn't think he'll be crocked most of the season. If you get 10 appearances out of him you've done well.

He put in a transfer request.

He was forced to by Derek Llambias.

Yeah, it was pretty much knowledge at the time that he was asked to.

But I'm sure neesy knew that already.
