At what point will he realise constantly beating his team down will not improve their results? Before season starts I thought they would be either rather good or bad, depending on whether he takes, but convinced now his team will have no confidence and play absolutely full of fear of being the one to blame. Essentially how Pardew has us playing but for different reasons

Paolo Di Canio fuming as Sunderland's behind-closed-doors friendly defeat to reserve side is leaked

8 Sep 2013 22:30

Paolo di Canio is fuming with his Sunderland players – after they lost a closed-door game against the ‘kids’.

The fiery Italian planned the private practice match to give his senior stars 90 minutes under their belts during the international break.

Manager Di Canio had worked hard with the team after slamming them for losing at Crystal Palace, but the latest exercise backfired.

Sunderland’s ‘big team’ were well and truly beaten 3-1 by the Under-21 side that plays in the Premier League’s Professional Development League.

Di Canio was so incensed by the performance that he went over the game in detail afterwards – and also told all the players not to mention the match had even happened.

The manager has also been left with a decision to make on right-back Phil Bardsley, who is wanted on loan by Championship side Ipswich Town.

Bardsley, 28, who has no part to play in Di Canio’s plans, will make a loan switch next month when he has recovered from a broken foot that he suffered playing for Sunderland’s Under-21 side.

Bardsley has been out of favour with Di Canio since the build-up to the final game of last season at Tottenham.

He was told by the Italian that he would not play for the club again after he was pictured lying on a pile of £50 notes at a casino two days before the game at White Hart Lane.

Last week, he was allowed to return to the club and his suspension was lifted after issuing a public apology for joking about the Black Cats’ defeat at Fulham on the opening day of the season.

After Sunderland had lost 1-0 to the Cottagers, the Scotland international posted the comment: “Great opening day. Hahahhahaha hahahhaha!!!” on social media site Instagram.

Thing is, ever flicker of glee at this guy exposing himself as a complete buffoon is tempered by the fact this knuggle-dragger managed to easily outmanouver the guy we have in charge of our lot.  The stupider he looks, the worse it reflects on Pardew.

I wonder if he is actually crazy enough to play the reserves on Saturday and leave the first team in the stands.

Please let this happen  :memelol:

The build up to the arsenal game will be a paranoid witch hunt for the grass at the training camp.

Really wouldn't put too much stock in that result. His second game, good at getting the passion going and it probably seemed like a bit of a novelty to the players at the time but that wears off pretty quickly when the players are getting torn apart every week and I doubt you will see the same fight in them now. They probably had a hint of respect for him when he came in and showed he is strong minded but I bet now most of them fucking hate him so aren't going to go out of their way to impress.

Doesn't help that Pardew is so fucking negative but I bet it would be an entirely different game if played tonight.

He probably would if it wasn't for the 25 man squad rule

U21 don't need to be registered.

The Wear-Tyne derby game has today been given an early kick-off.

The Sunderland-Newcastle United match at the Stadium of Light on Sunday, October 27 will now start at 1.30pm, and not the original 4pm slot.

The match will remain live on Sky Sports.

Seeing as it's a surprise to exactly no-one, why did it take so long to change it?
