Figures 1-0 Football
God shut the f*** up about Dummett, man. We've had full-backs who can't go 2 games without massively f***ing up and costing us goals. He doesn't do that. Leave him be. Weak link, ffs. He's a defender who defends well. Whoever our previous fullbacks have been and how good or shit they are have no relevance to whether Dummett is any good or not. We shouldn't have to make do with Dummett because we've had shitter options in the past. He's shit. He was shit yesterday, he's been shit in nearly every game this season. The best we have looked defensively this season was at Bristol City where we defended very well, with Clark at LB.
mozy
Those who criticise Dummett's positional sense clearly have no understanding of defending themselves. In one on one's and defending the far post (the two most important roles of a fullback!) he's the best we've had since prime Enrique. For the manager we have and style we play, he's fine. Clearly he would never play well for a keep ball side.

That's all well and good, but if you are going to have Gouffran as the left winger, then you need someone like Yedlin behind him so we can at least get some service to the striker from the left. Either that or get a proper wide man in place of Gouffran. Dummett and Gouffran is a very defensive left flank.

pinkeye
One of the big issues I have with Dummett is that when the ball is played to him he tends to back away as the ball rolls towards him which allows the attacking player from the opposition to close him down more, when he does eventually step up to play the ball he invariably strikes it off the advancing player and out for a throw either where he is standing or in most cases actually further back towards our own goal. I think he is trying to buy time so that his slower than average football brain can determine where he should kick it, perhaps looking for the pass he needs to make. A better or more accomplished player would have his pass already mapped in his mind so as soon as the ball arrives he can make the play. He is a concern but, far less of a concern than the likes of Colback who is just awful. Last night Colback and Diame were just being carried by the rest of the team, I am so surprised that Rafa doesn't see it the way that we do.
Guest
That's pretty much exactly what he was doing that time he fell on his face at Goodison.
Ronaldo
God shut the fuck up about Dummett, man. We've had full-backs who can't go 2 games without massively fucking up and costing us goals. He doesn't do that. Leave him be. Weak link, ffs. He's a defender who defends well. You constantly brought up Coloccini for like 4 years when everybody else disagreed with you, man. Sip your medicine like a man. Doesn't even make any sense. Only the odd mong disagreed, too. If that's the cap you wanna wear, coolio.
Holloway
I think Dummets distribution and decision making can improve with confidence, we' ll see how he improves this season under Rafa. He can certainly defend up against wing play

Marmoset
He'll never be Dani Alves, but of course with time and an easier ball in front of him he can get better at playing simple passes. Funny how people think a decent manager and a few years will without much doubt make a more attacking but less solid fullback better defensively, but never entertain the idea the other way around. Hanshithispantz
To be fair it's obviously easier to train a player to stick to a plan and maintain his position than it is to improve their passing/shooting/vision/dribbling etc.
Aiston
I think Dummets distribution and decision making can improve with confidence, we' ll see how he improves this season under Rafa. He can certainly defend up against wing play When it comes to distribution he is the worst player in the squad other than Perez. It would be absolutely appalling if he cannot improve it. His crossing is actually pretty decent, his problem is actually getting into that position in the first place. He's not naturally comfortable on the ball, with a bit more confidence he could be a hell of a lot better than he looks.
xLiaaamx
It's his lack of any agility meaning he can't really change direction.

mighty__mag
I think since last season he's improved already under Rafa. Has a better cross than most of the forward players here. And he's looked a tad quicker.
Wallsendmag
I just can't believe that in this day and age a professional footballer, playing at this level, can look so petrified whenever he has the ball at his feet.
Marmoset
It is very poor, but he makes up for it to an extent in other ways. Hopefully as said the more he plays the more confident he gets. He'll never be taking people on but if he can just get more comfortable playing simple balls he'll be very useful cover even in the premier league. Figures 1-0 Football
Ronaldo will be along in a minute to call everyone twats and claim that Dummett is good at defending. Despite evidence all season to the contrary and us having to watch the worst team in the Championship give him the run around yesterday. That nutmeg and Dummett passing the ball out for a corner shortly after
