The Managerial Merry Go Round™ - Ivan Juric to Southampton

Recommended Posts

He seems to have  lost the dressing room - maybe the players think last season's success wasn't down to him? (They were never going to think that when things are going well)

Thinking back to BBC's sport personality of the year award, when they presented Team of the Year trophy, something was odd between the manager and the players.

They've won football. They've done something most of them will never, ever achieve again. It must be hard naturally to motivate yourself after that when you'll never peak like that again.

I think this is the key really. There was always going to be a massive comedown.

Saw earlier that Nigel Clough has turned down a move to Nottingham Forest (a club he played over 400 matches for), preferring to stay with Burton Albion. How excruciatingly embarrassing for the former champions of Europe.

Says more about their situation with the owners than the club. It's like us getting turned down by McClaren.

How do you think teams like Liverpool(70s/80s) and Man U(90s/2014)managed to keep winning..? Yes, they are bigger clubs but its basically down to the manager and his staff...AND being well supported, when necessary, by Board backing.

Liverpool under Shankly established the 'Boot Room' system and the board wisely promoted someone(Paisley)who was familiar with it when Shanks retired. Clough also kept his teams(with the exception of Leeds)in the heat of the action despite them being similar to Leicester in size/potential.

Leicester under Ranieri were one-season wonders and its apparent that he doesn't have the motivational skills of the a/m managers who, despite the popular view on here, would have been JUST as successful today. It is also much harder to break into the Top 6 on a regular basis because these clubs have ridiculous amounts of money..only a club like Newcastle could do it and even then, only if backed by big, big money.

wtf? was doing a good job imo from afar

Fans were getting on his back because they are 20 odd points behind Celtic. Not really sure how they could have expected anything else tbh.

Nah. Rangers fans at work are pretty sensible about the gap, reckoned he's got a big issue with the type of football he plays vs the quality of players at his disposal. Can't break teams down at Ibrox etc.

Not saying they sound bin him but the reasons I was given were solid enough.
