If Casillas had stayed on his line, RVP would've simply changed his tactic, brought the ball down and shot, or even volleyed it first time. Well, if he wasn't he'd have given Van Persie time to control it for an easy finish and would have been criticised quite rightly for not coming out. LucaAltieri Posted June 13, 2014 Share Posted June 13, 2014 There's something poetic about Spain passing the ball around for 40 minutes to get 1 goal, then have Holland play one ball over the top and equalize right at the end of the half. It's kind of beautiful. Spain have been trying quite a few early balls over the top though and are looking for the striker a lot quicker than in the past. Exactly, all based on a stereotype that's not really accurate anymore. Spain still play possession football, as the stats will no doubt show. They're more purposeful than in the past but they're still desperate to hang on to the ball as much as possible. I'm not advocating needless hoofing, either.
