Did it ever come out why Ashworth actually left ?

Thought it was he questioned Amorim appointment, wanted more time to evaluate team suitability, preferred a prem based manager and Ratcliffe felt he was not doing his job by wanting to do his job.

He’s a slimy fuck (Ashworth), but he was spot on. Brought in to revamp squad, but then have hands tied by being giving a manager that wouldn’t be flexible and you have to sign players to suit that formation. Probably was best for his reputation to get out and let Berrada fall by the decision long term.

I grew up watching a lot of catchphrase, say what you see and all that

We've been pretty happy with the 24/25 arrivals to be honest.

The 2021-2023 set of transfers are a car crash. Mind you, Casemiro has been playing well again and it was important to rest him for tomorrow. Antony £80m though man.

Mount for 60m is mind boggling.

I guess they just think ‘we’re Man Utd so we have to buy big players for big money’ but unfortunately don’t have the ability to choose the right ones.

Couldn't believe that transfer at the time, kept asking what his strengths were. He's such a nothing player.

What a total pile of shite they've bought in the last few years. I'm not sure you could argue a single one has been worth it  also I forgot they paid 10m for Amrabat to play 20 games on loan.

Christ that's some amount of money spent

How many can they class as a success?

You'd think it was impossible to buy so many players for so much money and for them all to fail, every single one other than Bruno Fernandes, going back much further than that as well, basically going back to when Ferguson left . Quite impressive really.

I've made this point before but while lots of the signings are flops or at least highly overpriced it can't all be down to bad recruitment alone. The success of any player lives and dies largely by the overall culture of the club they're going to, the ethos of the team and the quality of coaching they receive.

I have no doubt that lots of the players they've signed, particularly younger ones, would have done better at other clubs. The lack of direction of the club together with the pressure of being a club with large expectations seems a particularly toxic mix of ruining players rather than giving them a platform to excel and develop.

Agree with this. If my memory isn’t failing, we signed Tonali, Hall, Tino and Barnes in the summer before Champions League. Come the back end of last season, I would not have said that was an amazing transfer window, but equally I was pretty comfortable that we had still signed 4 players all eased in to the team for a variety of different reasons (injuries, suspensions, form of others). This year, all four of those players has / is playing a massive part in our season. Now, ask me if I’d expect similar as a Manchester United fan of their players and I’d be a lot less comfortable. Most of them have been dropped in the deep end, seen changes across the club and are trying to adjust to completely different circumstances to when they arrived. This season Hoijland should have been stepping up, instead he’s going backwards. I wouldn’t bet against any of those on the list from last summer doing the same. The club just doesn’t seem in a good place right now. Things can change quickly though I guess.

Yeah refuse to believe it's always down to the player. The manager, coaching, formation, culture at the club etc all play a part.

If somebody from the outside had judged our players based purely on the Bruce era and then you see them now.

Joelinton, Murphy, Schar, Almiron, Longstaff, Krafth etc.

It's why I find it surprising more players don't seriously consider which clubs they join rather than just taking the most money. I would be willing to bet 95% of the Chelsea recent flops would likely have succeeded if they had gone to us or Bournemouth or Villa or somewhere instead.

Is it really mind boggling? Was he not Chelsea's player of the season for a few years running and also an England regular?

I ask the above, even though I never rated him as a player:)!

Never rated him either, used to find him a nothing player when he was a regular for Southgate's England for awhile and would irritate me that he was one of those first on the team sheet types despite offering very little.

Mount was a very good player in my eyes, perfect pressing CAM and had goals to his game. Just he played so much football from an early stage, with no rest and since the injuries started, I can’t see him ever having a full season without them. Lose the pressing element, you lose a lot of his game and he becomes average very quickly.

Expensive player to keep too, because no club is taking on those wages.
