Aye, cash-strapped King Rat is going to be terrified of giving serious cash to Amorim to bring in players to suit his formation based on what’s been on offer so far. Feel like Amorim could work if backed to the hilt and given a lot of time but I don’t think he’ll get either of those things. I’d predict he needs a huge turn around before the end of the season in order to get the buy in from the board to totally back him. If they back him after it continues like it is then fair play

there's no guarantee his system will ever even work in the Prem  managers here are a lot better than in Portugal, they'll have it sussed within a few months.

the fact he is so tactically rigid would be my biggest worry if I was Man U supporting scum.

he seems like an alright fella, just massively out of his depth in this league at that team. hope they stick with him and give him billions to spaff on wing backs.

His big mistake was steadfastly refusing to even contemplate changing his formation he's brought across with him. On the one hand you've got to admire his determination to make the system stick but at what cost? That shower of shit seem totally incapable of making it work, it looks fucking rank the vast majority of the time but he can't/won't change it. It's failing week after week and he's just watching it happen. He's running the risk of getting sacked before the squad clicks into shape and they eventually learn how to play it. He doesn't seem like a bad bloke but it all looks doomed at this point :):)

The intractability is amazing. It also kinda necessitates a massive clear out and rebuild, plus a new stadium? They are fucked.

You'll be paying for it once you move over here.

Both Liverpool and West Ham spoke with Amorim and decided against him so that perhaps says a lot about what they saw in him. A little bit like us and Fonseca who was strongly linked pre Howe

Wouldn't read too much into the West Ham one. According to sources they rejected him as he had never managed abroad and they wanted more experience. Fair enough, but it would be a bit strange as to why they still spoke with him when they knew these things beforehand. Other sources suggest he had a change of heart and apologised to Sporting for meeting with them. I'd say the latter is more likely.

It's well documented though that Liverpool went with Slot because Amorim's system would have required a squad overhaul which they didn't need. The difference is that we badly need a squad overhaul and most fans want him to gut the team.

Sign young and hungry players (Dorgu), and get rid of the overpaid passengers (Rashford). It's going to take time but I do think he'll be a success if he's backed. If Ratcliffe and co. decide to sack him, it would be a display of gross incompetence, and the only person who comes out of it looking good is Dan Ashworth.

If I got a new gaffer at graft and they paced about the office huffing & puffing with a face like a slapped arse, told everyone else in the industry that we were shit at our jobs, said we were the worst team in the history of the company, they would only implement one new and complicated approach to getting the job done and week after week after week our results were tragic.

Then I would definitely want them to get paid millions of billions when they inevitably got sacked.

Signed Ugarte, Hojlund, Zirkzee, Yoro all young, got rid of overpaid passengers in Varane, McTominay, Martial, AWB and the needle hasn’t moved.

Do think Man Utd fans get themselves too tied up in thinking ‘Young signings = the way to go’, just because some of their other signings have been average at best.

A younger side can just mean the floor drops further, so when it’s not working the results are even worse. Like Doug looks energetic, but quite limited on the ball. Early days, but doesn’t really much difference in their technical play compared to AWB.

Feel like too much is made of the mid-season thing. That's just how it is, no club really has the luxury of waiting when they need a manager. The only interesting element is that he's been so spectacularly bad it's ruined any goodwill for summer.

I feel like it just suggests that he didn’t want the job enough or wasn’t strong enough to turn it down, and the club weren’t strong enough to move onto another candidate. So reflects badly on both.

Not that we know about serious either party was about it.

Unless he can change things up and figure out a system that suits his players, Amorim is done. They're not going to give him the time or the money he needs to find the players that he needs to suit his particularly rigid system. They look completely and utterly lost trying to set up the way he wants and its quite obvious they dont have the players for it.

He'll continue to slag off everything and everyone at Man Utd and persist with trying to jam his squarest of square pegs into round holes and then they'll fuck him off at the end of the season.

They need to try and rebuild with a pragmatic manager who is able to utilise the players at his disposal, not a coach who will need the correct players to implement their philosophy. Iraola will be out of reach. Thomas Frank or Marco Silva would probably be a shout, aim for a top half finish and then crack on from there. Fuck that though, hopefully their misery continues.

I guess I see this a little bit differently now, especially to the way I saw it after their game vs us back in December. They absolutely rolled over for us then, I’ve never seen a Man United side look so weak and incapable and it was down to the way Amorim set them up. The two in CM was never going to hang with us but he knows that as well as anyone and still went with it anyway. It felt like he was out of his depth, but as the weeks have gone on he’s persevered and it looks different now. Its all by design.

Its high risk but I think he was given the blessing to figure out who he wants to keep by doing it all his way, he’s going to stick by his system and play who he wants when he wants even if it likely means a loss (fortunately for them no danger of relegation). Hes not a stupid coach, he’s very capable and he knows that side will lose most weeks in the PL using his system with their current squad. He’ll get the summer to rebuild, but they will need to kick on from there if he is to stick around. It depends who they can bring in and get rid of, and for what money. Same limitations as everyone else basically, but he’s got a huge job on his hands. It’s a total reset.

He’s publicly lowering expectations constantly, and so far the fans are onboard. If next season they spend and don’t start quickly I think the tide will turn before long though - as it always does.
