I find it very hard to judge the quality of managers and players at man u as both always seemed sucked into a toxic vortex draining all talent. An exciting young manager to root and branch reform the squad still seems good idea, but I do question Amorim's absolute rigid insistence on 3-4-3. I love a good tactic as much as anyone it's clearly not working

It does feel like a constant addition to an already matted and disgusting patchwork quilt. The best course of action from the outside, I would agree, is an acceptance of lower finishes for a couple of seasons and clear out the decks and start again.

But it feels like it's only people on the outside who feel like this is unacceptable?

 

I feel like Manchester United fans are fairly accepting of lower finishes, provided that we can see progress and ambition. 

 

Amorim is charming aye and fans love that, but he's also started to root out issues that have been in the squad for years. That's buying him time as well, because he's doing what we've been crying out for this past two or three years.

 

Obviously if he continues on with a 30% win ratio, it won't matter what he does, but in my eyes he's still the man.

The thing is its not like youve been finishing lower down the table for a long time.  You have decent squad, certainly capable of finishing in the CL places.  You just need a good manager.  You aren't going to win the league with your squad or with the issues at the club but you should be getting in the CL this season.

What do you think the real problems are at ManU, Froggy?

Fernandez and Dialo seem to say all the right things and you have 3 new first team players. So that’s almost 50% of the team plus the manager who should not be ‘toxic’. The (forever guilty) Glazers are in the background now too so, what are the problems?

They earn so much money commercially that that is never really going to be case unfortunately.

 

Their ability to spend means they are always just one or two windows away from finding something that works and being back in the mix.

 

It’s actually quite incredible they’ve managed to fuck it for as long as they currently have.

I think going from 15th to 4th/5th is a huge ask, even if we've spent big on some forwards. I just want 8th. 

 

This is the thing with football. We did play well against Arsenal, and we've had a mare against Grimsby. That's seen as the end of the world. If we beat Burnley and get a couple of points from Chelsea and City it suddenly doesn't look so bad. It can all change very quickly.

A few Man Utd fans I've spoken to are adamant Interim either walks or is sacked after Burnley and they're confident of getting Howe in to replace him

What I am continually impressed with is, the stadium going fan’s patience. They seem to be there for a fun day out, lose or draw. Genuine credit to them for that.

 

Personally, I think Amorim should get the season. Coaches are binned off too early these days. Unless you’re in the bottom 3 come January the board might as well see if what they saw in him in the 1st place will come through and turn it around.

£365m NET spend in the last 5 years, but that's not what he was alluding to and you know that, he took over a club at he bottom of the PL in October and had them in the CL by the end of his first full season in charge, £108m spend btw

I've not backed Onana outside of a few months at the start of 2024 where he looked like he was turning a corner. I've been fairly consistent in calling him a fucking donkey.

I'm not getting into what Howe has done, as I've been pretty vocal about how good I think he is.

 

But we need to remember Amorim is three games into his first full season as well.
