It’s absolutely marvellous. In fairness earlier in the season he was very poor, constantly getting bullied by every defender in the league and looked sluggish on the ball. While some of the criticism was over the top and the booing was unacceptable, it wasn't all completely unjustified. He's improved massively of late in almost every aspect of his game, both technically and physically, and it's clear the criticism has given him a kick up the arse and done him good. This. Criticised him before, but it was justified. Been superb since the turn of the year, though.

Newcastle Fan
His best game for us since he joined, was untouchable in the first half, faded a bit in the second but deserved his Hatrick hope he can keep up this sort of form for us for a full season next year, he's a delight to watch when on form. Aye, 'twas Joselu's fault he was falling over every time he went shoulder to shoulder with an opposition player. There's far less of that now. He doesn't have to play as a target man with Rondon there, Almiron also takes a lot of pressure off giving him a lot more time on the ball. It makes a big difference. I’d say Almiron enabling him more time and space responsible than the slackjawed criticism from the crowd myself. 99% so. Aye, Almiron has helped massively but there's been a huge upturn in his own effort like; just as blind as the fans criticising him if you can't see that... The lad was falling over at every mild breath of wind back in November and nothing was coming off for him, it's very obvious that he's worked on his upper body strength and developed himself technically in situations where he's surrounded by defenders, he's improved his whole game which is something he needs credit for - it's certainly not exclusively the introduction of almiron and rondon that has improved his game. He was going down too often when competing for a 50-50 ball/going shoulder to shoulder - presumably trying to win a free kick and the refs weren't buying it. It had fuck all to do with whether he was playing as a target man ffs.
triggs
Its since we've changed the system he's came into his own. Even when it was Atsu and not Almiron there he had already improved drastically with the extra help

Call me blind if you say he wasn’t trying. His game has barely changed, it was the same last season, he just has less responsibility...which is a good thing. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. The fact he’s front of the queue this season was already laughable, even moreso now.
