Moment Of The Match (Goals Aside) - World Cup Edition

   Pearce's life is falling apart right before our eyes.

What was this about, the France goal that used goal-line technology? I didn't understand the whole discussion about it on the radio later; the initial effort didn't go in, then the keeper fumbled it and it did. What exactly was the problem at the time?

They showed the first effort hitting the post and (rather pointlessly) used goal line technology to show that it hadn't crossed the line.

They then showed the replay of the keeper fumbling it over the line and used GLT to show that it had crossed the line there.

The first replay was kind of pointless, since nobody thought it had crossed the line there, but it was obvious enough what was being shown.

To everyone except Jonathan Pearce.

He started screaming "No goal!!" after the first replay, then lost the rag completely after the second one, saying they'd changed their minds. He was outraged, started questioning the legitimacy of GLT. Keown tried to explain it several times, Pearce was having none of it.

Was a good laugh.

The problem was caused by them using the goal line technology for the fist instance when it hit the right hand post. It was quite clear with the human eye that it had hit the post and come out so never a goal and yet FIFA or the TV director decided to show the goal line technology on the big screen in the ground saying "No Goal". It then went on to show the ball travel across the goal, hit the keeper and cross the line. The goal line technology was again shown and this time the big screen said "Goal".

In reality it showed that the system worked perfectly but Pearce started babbling on about them having changed their minds which was utter bullshit. Martin Keown was calmly trying to explain to Pearce that there was no problem but he was too busy screeching like a drunk charva to listen. I noticed that in the match he commentated on yesterday he was STILL going on about it! Numpty.

There was no excuse for Pearce to not understand the system given that similar technology is already in use in the Premier League but I suppose you could excuse the management, fans and commentators from countries that don't use such a system being a bit confused when the big screen flashes up 'No Goal' while the players are off celebrating the goal. They may well have then missed the screen say 'Goal' for the 2nd instance as they were too busy swearing at the ref.

He also claimed France had scored a 3rd (before they actually did) when they hit the side netting, the ball quite clearly wasn't in the net and nobody was cheering but he just went along with it anyway. "Jonathan Pearce Jet-lagged" into Youtube.

Miraculously a video of the goal line technology bit doesn't seem to be anywhere on the internet. It was hilarious.
