He needs freedom although Abeid looks to be better positionally than Tiote, can cover the pitch easier than Colback and doesn't own the Anita invisibility cloak so it's worth a try. In a 4-2-3-1 with De Jong, SDJ is part of the attacking unit and the 2 CM have to be strong defensively - but you want Sissoko to drive forward at will and not be afraid to lose it. City's best results have come with 2 in midfield capable of sitting simultaneously. Even Spurs look better with 2 players comfortable in defensive situations. For me, getting the most out of this current team is about getting the most from Siss which will create space for the forwards. I think he's best with a licence to attack from deep. Playing in a midfield 2 he'll either have to play more conservatively which might hinder his game or more likely - become a bit of a liability on the ball. Gallowgate Toon Posted January 28, 2015 Share Posted January 28, 2015 I don't think Sissoko deep would be a problem against most teams, to be honest. I'm sure he dropped back against Spurs and put in a great performance, stealing the ball on a few occasions and getting us moving forward, IIRC. Him starting runs from a deeper position would mean he has more options to pass to when breaking forward too, he's often only had one or two players in support this season. It'd require Abeid to be incredibly disciplined with his positioning but, from what we saw in that run of games, he looks like he could do it.
