Siem de Jong (still alive)

The Aarons situation, in my opinion, is to avoid somebody bidding for him whilst his contract situation is what it is. Didn't we try this with Carroll and he played for Liverpool pretty much straight away despite being out for a month for us?

I'm fairly sure Carroll didn't make his Liverpool debut for ages.

EDIT: 6th March, so about five weeks after leaving.

Ah well, maybe we have genuinely mauled Aarons' hamstring

Don't see why Sissoko has to be a CM in a two man midfield if I'm honest.

In a 4-2-3-1 with De Jong, SDJ is part of the attacking unit and the 2 CM have to be strong defensively - but you want Sissoko to drive forward at will and not be afraid to lose it.

At home against weaker sides i'd like to see it but I fear in most games it would just shackle Siss or make us much worse defensively.

I think it could work if Sissoko is paired with a true DM like Abeid, I don't think you necessarily need 2 purely defensive midfielders.

is Abeid a true DM though? did he not score for fun in Turkey playing in a more advanced position?

*Greece, but you are right. He played more advanced and scored 7 goals

Southampton are a well-balanced side and they often play with 2 sitters.

City's best results have come with 2 in midfield capable of sitting simultaneously.

Even Spurs look better with 2 players comfortable in defensive situations.

For me, getting the most out of this current team is about getting the most from Siss which will create space for the forwards. I think he's best with a licence to attack from deep. Playing in a midfield 2 he'll either have to play more conservatively which might hinder his game or more likely - become a bit of a liability on the ball.

I'd love to see it given a go, I just don't think it would work for Siss.

SDJ just turned 28. Happy birthday to the lad.

I don't think Sissoko deep would be a problem against most teams, to be honest. I'm sure he dropped back against Spurs and put in a great performance, stealing the ball on a few occasions and getting us moving forward, IIRC. Him starting runs from a deeper position would mean he has more options to pass to when breaking forward too, he's often only had one or two players in support this season. It'd require Abeid to be incredibly disciplined with his positioning but, from what we saw in that run of games, he looks like he could do it.
