AyeDubbleYoo
If he'd nodded that chance in I would've been pretty happy with his performance TBH. He interchanged well with people around him and almost never makes a mistake in possession. I think a lot of the criticism is amplified because he's keeping Perez out. It was a massive, massive moment in the game, and indeed the season, and he blew it. Those 2 points could be huge in May, no excuses at all for that miss. AyeDubbleYoo
No course not, it was a bad miss. What I'm saying is the other 9 times out of 10, when he puts it away, I would be relatively happy with how he played.
DJ_NUFC
He's had 3 starts in God knows how long, first run of games in what, 18 months potentially? In the first two starts they weren't games where we were battering the opposition and him getting onto things. Today was the first real sniff of a goal (apart from Cisse's b****** head last week), he's had. I'll forgive him for being a bit rusty in those sorts of positions at this stage of this come back. I think he'd benefit from Ayoze & Mitrovic in the same side as him rather than instead of him, and I think the other two would benefit over a full 60-70 minutes from having De Jong's intelligence and vision there with them too. Dat intelligence. Dat vision.
sugoinufc
Not saying he should start over Perez. But he just came back and offers something else. We need 2 quality players in all positions and he can be quality imo...he just needs game time! no problem with that. Think McClaren had to make important changes. It had nothing to do with perez performing bad...it was just something that had to be done! It worked, he played well and he needs minutes! It makes the squad stronger. Sick of people screaming for Perez! (He is my favorite as well)

Singling him out for 'He cost us the game with that miss!!!' type stuff in particular when good chances were missed by others, and he wasn't responsible for giving Ayew space to strike, doesn't really make sense. Guest neesy111
Rather leave de jong in for link up play and dump Colback to get Perez in the team personnally I think we need to put Thauvin in personally to get a balanced team. All of our attaches on down our Right wing which makes it easier for the opposition to defend.

Just think he's too weak to play every game, he appears to play so much better when he comes off the bench. Wasn't sure why it was Anita who made made for him though, we lost our legs in the middle after that because he was all over the place.
Crumpy Gunt
Should have scored, tried too hard to place the header instead of just heading it straight. I'd still have him in the team though, but instead of Colback. He has a uncanny knack of putting efforts just the wrong side of the post.
Big Geordie
I actually like him as a player. Yeah he's not very quick, but he's very intelligent and is a good organizer. As others have said, the lad just needs a run of games. If anything, it shows how badly off we are in midfield and it's stupid how many players we have, that can play the no.10 role. Perez will be sold next month, anyway.

BrettNUFC
A lot of this talk about De Jong with his pace and urgency is very similar to what I was reading from Arsenal fans about Ozil last season. Wenger wasting his money on a player not suited to the PL and not adapting to it. Now he's the top assister in Europe and Arsenal fans now loving him. I'm not saying De Jong is in Ozil's class but style of play is similar and needs pace/runners around him to be most effective along with linking up the teams play. He slotted Sissoko/Janmaat in a couple of times when they ran beyond him and that's what he needs but more of it. Perez should be in the team with him but if it's one or the other, Perez it should be as he's currently more suited to our style of play. Things just aren't going for De Jong at the minute. He was unlucky not to be on scoresheet last week after Cisse's cock up and he should have been on it again today but for a horrendous miss. At least he's popping up in the right areas and it's not by chance because he's very good at finding the space around the pitch. He'll not adapt to the league and gain confidence by sitting on the bench. McClaren needs to find a formation to get his best players on the pitch. At the moment, he's far off doing so. Interpolic
I really hope he doesn't end up going the way of Jon Dahl Tomasson. Probably my biggest NUFC regret, could have been excellent for us but was hung out to dry stuck up front on his own once Shearer got injured.
AyeDubbleYoo
I think he's contributing more as we go TBH. Like I said yesterday, if he'd nodded that chance in I would've been pretty happy with his performance.
Guest Gomez
I'd be interested to see how he worked with Perez. I think they could link up well, but we wouldn't have much of a focal point up top for Dummet to aim at.

buzza
Compare him to Nolan or something, not f***ing Ozil Not much like Nolan or Ozil (perhaps a mix of the two), I would say more sheringham but without the aerial prowess
