Elliottman
You'd think the bloke had only played 4 games of football in 18months.
DJ_NUFC
You dont like dejong. We get it. I'm not sure why his inclusion bothers me so much. As others have said, the fact that he's keeping Perez out is giving me blinding, lung-aching nightmares of the HBA situation where any and every excuse was wheeled out to keep him on the bench. While the likes of Gouffran, Jonas, Raylor, Gosling etc. all started ahead of him. And anytime we won, it was doubly justified keeping them in the team. AyeDubbleYoo
You'd think the bloke had only played 4 games of football in 18months. It genuinely mystifies me that people think 'McClaren won't change the team' and all that, after De Jong's only just come in.

I'm not sure the two situations are comparable, at least not at the moment. Dejong clearly has quality but at the.moment it's about getting him fit and building his confidence. Then, we'll have a much better idea if he's going to make it or not. Plus perez will come back in at some point, I was never confident that would happen with hba/pardew. A good play on words when describing de Jong. Bit harsh, mind. Not his fault he has dodgy lungs!
Shak
I really hope he doesn't end up going the way of Jon Dahl Tomasson. Probably my biggest NUFC regret, could have been excellent for us but was hung out to dry stuck up front on his own once Shearer got injured. Seriously? Decades of heartbreak and piss we've endured and you're telling me that the failure of John Dahl fucking Tomasson is the one thing that really stings. Cronky
It'd be good to see De Jong and Ayoze playing together, as the two players most likely to make something happen. McClaren obviously sees them as competing for the same place, and presumably is worried that our defensive capability would be weakened. But Ayoze can play in a deeper position and can put in some hard work. It's worth a try.

54
Has shown nowt IMO: http://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/my-situation-newcastle-sucks-says-unhappy-de-jong Personally thinks he's looked decent when ever he's played and offered much needed experience, I don't think it was a coincidence that we went on a decent run when he was in the team. joeyt
If he buried that chance against Villa he'd have probably started the last 3 games, so he's to blame for the most part
AyeDubbleYoo
If he buried that chance against Villa he'd have probably started the last 3 games, so he's to blame for the most part Well he's 'to blame' but missing a chance is hardly the worst crime in the world. If he'd stuck that away then (IMO) people would be taking about how well he is progressing.
Darth Crooks
I think the answer is somewhere in between; he's had promise but it's not reached what some expected.
AyeDubbleYoo
I think the answer is somewhere in between; he's had promise but it's not reached what some expected. Aye that's fair, but he has had massive injuries and very few games.
Jayson
I dont think taking him off after that miss was great management really. Players need confidence & less pressure, you get the complete opposite if you miss a chance and then get subbed & dropped. He's not going to come on as a sub and be calm as fuck now if he gets a chance is he, he's gonna shit himself. His lungs have already failed him twice, now the manager takes him out if he makes a mistake. The psychology of it is all against the lad. He needs to have balls of steel to make a career for himself here now, by coming back into the picture & taking any chances he has instantly even though hes barely played football in this league. thorin
He'll be playing against Watford I think, maybe if he does something decent there he will get another run... was deffo bad management dropping him, as everyone has claimed earlier that he's a player that needs a run of games to get back in "shape". He has seemed kinda sluggish when he's played earlier, but unless you're willing to do what it takes to get him into shape we could just sell him on... Kanj
In retrospect it was poor miss but we've missed sitters all season long, hence the predicament we are currently in. I'd be more than happy to see him play his preferred more with Mitrovic and Perez but then I think of where Gini is to go and you realize he's probably not better at the #10 role than Wijnaldum IMO.
