Siem de Jong (still alive)

Recommended Posts

De Jong was never all that but stood out in pre-season in a contained Pardew era that was as dull as dish water.  The same with Aarons, any kid that took on a player would always look good in a side with no creativity.

It really is a shame, he's the type of player that could be perfect for this league if he could get a run of games and toughen up a bit.

I don't think anyone has ever doubted his footballing ability

Rafa didnt see him as useful for the championship, so I doubt he will use him this year. The same goes for Saivet and Riviere. They will be sold.

The only chance De Jong has, is if Rafa is impressed by his determination to get back into the squad.

That was just because of his recent injuries though no?

 I've always been in the camp that a match-fit Siem de Jong could be very useful for us, hoping he'll do good for us as that fulcrum behind a lone striker that links everything up, every time I saw him play he showed good technique, control and quick feet.

His injury record has been absolutely horrendous. I don't think a season in the Championship, recently back from all his injuries, would have helped him at all. Playing at a more sedate pace abroad might have helped his recovery and building of match fitness. If it was that Rafa rated him, I think he took a calculated risk that he could be useful if/when we were promoted and wanted to have the opportunity to see him fit for this pre-season.

Lots of wishful thinking, but he looked good enough before we signed him and match fitness aside (missing easy chances), has imo looked classy.

Although I hate the sentence 'he could be like new signing', mainly because it's had such negative connotations for us in the past, I do think Siem could be just that. IF he can stay fit he could be a real asset for us this season. Perez is really patchy as a number 10 and Shelvey & Ritchie are our only sources of creativity. I hope he comes good and proves himself finally.

3 years left on his deal FFS. What a mess of a club.

Was there any indication he was going to be so injured? IMO if he's stayed fit we would be talking about one of the better Carr-era signings.

 In the few game that he played, hes looked pretty decent imo.

He had a decent season with PSV by all accounts, maybe some of his injury problems are behind him? He managed to play 21 times and scored 7 goals.

When fit he's better at what he does than a good chunk of the players we're being linked with.. personally i'd like to see him given a chance

He was obviously not 100% when we got him because there is no way Ajax would have let their captain and most influential player leave for so relatively little a fee.

Maybe the club knew this and took a gamble?

Overall he's been unlucky, that first injury kept him out for 6 months, then another 2 with the collapsed lung.

Did ok when he played, when obviously not up to pace. Then he had the eye thing which was a freak accident apparently.

Hopefully Rafa sees something in him when back to warrant a run in the team.

He has never looked good even when he's been fit though. He's so slow and undynamic.

In Rafa's 1st home game, him coming on changed the match for us against the mackems.
