It's noticable how Benitez has told him not to get quite so far forward in the last few matches. Problem is that's by far and away the best and most consistent part of his game. The rest fluctuates massively from match to match. Pants today.

Hangs us out to dry when he runs forward. Wouldn't if we had a decent team/set up. But for now he needs to stay in position. Easier said than done, as that's his style...but he needs to. At very least he should bust a gut bombing back. He didn't today.

Luckily for us he wasn't punished very much for it, since Sunderland were having too much fun running circles around Colback on the other flank.

Bigger fish to fry than getting rid of Janmaat, but I agree that it needs to happen in time.

He needs replacing at the end of this season, no matter what division we're in.

If Rafa stays I can't see him keeping Janmaat on. He looks good going forward, but defensively he's pretty awful. Just switches off at times and unless Rafa can fix that then he has to go.

Noticed that too.

To be honest he hasn't been good going forward for a while anyway.  He gets there but shows little to no effort and his crosses are simply him going through the motions, no conviction at all.

Aye, this. Which is why he's now a massively irritating liability.  In a stronger team that oppositions feared, he'd be a big part of it

"They also realise. Janmaat regretted terribly that he had to cancel. He wanted to be with Oranje, anxious to be in the spotlight for another club in case Newcastle United are actually relegated.”

Sportwitness reports that “later in the De Telegraaf article it’s stated that Janmaat would prefer to move to a bigger club” ‘He can’t shout about it, but it’s best for his career.’”

Where's that from?
