I thought his treatment of Colback last season was also far more harsh than necessary. Giving someone thirty appearances in a season, and then immediately telling them that are unwanted and banishing them from the squad because they didn't take a move away just made no sense to me in terms of man management. Obviously no one cared since Colback is almost universally despised on here.

 

Fwiw, it is best Aarons leaves this year for Newcastle and Rolando himself. He'll be 23 soon and has never played a full first team season. He probably needs to drop down two levels, so he can just play as much as his apparently frail body will let him.

Is that verified? I hadn't heard that account before, tbf, his actions toward would make perfect sense in that context. I thought the original account was that he had turned down a move away that Rafa had arranged for him after deciding he was no longer in his plans.

Perhaps he's just never recovered from his injuries? As when he's been on the pitch since Pardew did his best to ruin his career he's never really shown anything.

Could it be an attitude based decision? Obviously he got charged with assault after a bar brawl (albeit eventually pleaded guilty to affray) and through a combination of injuries and being out of the team just hasn't pushed on anywhere near as much as people expected. Maybe Rafa felt there was something about him detrimental to the rest of the squad? He's proven before if for whatever reason he doesn't want you at the club he'll freeze you out (Colback, Mitrovic) so just seems another example of that.

Yep, from my memory he had decent games against City & Palace and not much more in what, 5 years?. He's not good enough by my estimations. Looked god awful this pre-season too, although you can forgive that, of course.

I think he had it all. But injuries and not given a chance have really halted his progress. Will be a good player at championship level if he stays injuryfree.

Really hard to say how he’ll turn out, as he’s got talent. He just hasn’t played. 33 league games under his belt across four seasons. He desperately needs to get a full season in somewhere. It definitely won’t happen here, so I’m not concerned if we do end up selling him.

We have nothing to lose if we loan him for a season to a championship team where he gets to play week in or week out.

If it doesn't work out, sell him next summer.

Hopefully those injuries haven't permafucked him, but seeing him play for that Italian side last season was painful - he was anonymous and ended up not being able to get a game for them.
