Rolando Aarons

Aye unless there is some logic to it that I'm not seeing, it feels daft and needlessly harsh. Although I guess it gets the message across. Rafa can be cutthroat AF at times.

I thought his treatment of Colback last season was also far more harsh than necessary. Giving someone thirty appearances in a season, and then immediately telling them that are unwanted and banishing them from the squad because they didn't take a move away just made no sense to me in terms of man management. Obviously no one cared since Colback is almost universally despised on here.

Fwiw, it is best Aarons leaves this year for Newcastle and Rolando himself. He'll be 23 soon and has never played a full first team season. He probably needs to drop down two levels, so he can just play as much as his apparently frail body will let him and find his feet as a professional.

Colback had a go at Rafa and told him to fuck off in front of the rest of the squad. Only one way that was going to end.

Is that verified? I hadn't heard that account before, tbf, his actions toward would make perfect sense in that context. I thought the original account was that he had turned down a move away that Rafa had arranged for him after deciding he was no longer in his plans.

Not in that specific detail as that doesn't happen but was reported by Craig Hope and a few others (not posting links to the likes of the Daily Mail use Google).

It'll be attitude problems as well as fitness, same with Lazaar, heard murmurings he's an absolute slice. Rafa doesn't tolerate that shit.

To avoid confusion, I was talking about Lazaar being a clem, though I do think talent is clearly not the reason Aarons is getting the boot.

Perhaps he's just never recovered from his injuries? As when he's been on the pitch since Pardew did his best to ruin his career he's never really shown anything.

Could it be an attitude based decision? Obviously he got charged with assault after a bar brawl (albeit eventually pleaded guilty to affray) and through a combination of injuries and being out of the team just hasn't pushed on anywhere near as much as people expected. Maybe Rafa felt there was something about him detrimental to the rest of the squad? He's proven before if for whatever reason he doesn't want you at the club he'll freeze you out (Colback, Mitrovic) so just seems another example of that.

“Rolando is one of these young players who needs to play, and Sterry is another one who we can allow to go on loan because they need minutes,” Benitez continued.

“They need to play. Rolando is more of a winger and we can manage the situation at left-full-back with the other players we have here; with Clark or Kenedy, which is why Sterry can go.

“Still we have [Christian] Atsu, [Jacob] Murphy and [Matt] Ritchie, so we have some wingers. We don’t have another specialist left-back, but we can manage the situation.

“At the moment, Saivet and Lazaar are trying to find solutions, while Sterry and Rolando are the other ones who can go,

“Lazaar is in Genoa at the moment, in Italy trying to do a deal. It is very close. I don’t have the details of the deal, but they are talking.”

“We can allow Rolando Aarons out on loan. Cal Roberts too.

“The players that will not play too many minutes and be on the bench.”
