I agree. In fact I wouldn't mind if he returned to the PL. He's only four goals away from 100. Ballack really wasn't that great when he came to Chelsea. His Best years were behind him by then. Obviously this has pitfalls and is nothing approaching a perfect science. I don't think Suarez is too high at all, he is the best #9 in the world and few on that list could claim to have been the best in their positions. Very underrated footballer key to ManU's "swarming" pass and move style in the 90's, great at driving his team forward, hugely consistent at the basics, very good first touch and distribution, rarely made a mistake, and was a touch tackler too - just a brilliant midfield general to have in a great footballing side. Some of his battles with Vieira were legendary, and I'd say Keane won the majority of them from the ones I remember seeing. He was often the heartbeat of his team when they played well, someone frequently involved in buildup play, and it's obvious that his teammates respected his abilities otherwise I doubt they'd have passed to him at every opportunity. Can see why he's not appreciated to be fair. Dislikeable personality and as he stuck to the basics he wasn't a "highlight reels" player. Scholes was nicer on the eye and the more talented footballer, certainly attacking wise, but don't think at his best he ever reached the level of consistent influence Keane did, so whilst Scholes was good over a longer period, adapted better into various roles, and didn't really decline much (unlike Keane), I think peak for peak Keane trumps him. True - Because the criteria is "Premier League's 100 best Players' not 'Best Players who may have graced the Premier League, for however brief a period'. He was undoubtably top ten in his prime (see bolded text) - it just happens most of his prime was pre-premier league. Christ, I feel dirty even typing 'premier league' Newcastle, Everton and Liverpool forward had the knack of making every striker he partnered score more goals than they did without him. Gary Lineker, Andy Cole and Ian Rush were just some of those who lauded his creativity. Technically he was as good a player as any England have produced. Aye true, closest one after that is maybe Ashley Cole? Not fit to clean Maldini's boots. Should consider himself lucky to be mentioned in the same sentence.
