We knew a draw would get us through and Nigeria were already out. Miserable goalless draw. Still scarred from it.

We needed a some sort of combination of things to happen, but getting stomped 3=1 wasn't one of them. Got up at 2:30 AM to watch Poland score in the third and fifth minute. But in the other game, Portugal got two red cards and the host South Koreans beat them 1-0 and we somehow got through on goal differential or something. I would have killed for a miserable goal-less draw. And in 2010 when the US needed a win vs Algeria in the last group stage game, I was in a farking business lunch meeting I couldn't get out of. Watched the first 75 miserable minutes of Algeria parking the bus but then had to leave for the meeting and missed Donovan's miracle goal. Still pissed about that. I think that's my last good memory supporting the US. I was in college so when he scored I ran out and dove straight into the swimming pool with the flag tied on like a cape. Good times. Our last decent team.

Me, my wife and a close friend (one of our groomsmen) were on a bit of a pub crawl around London. Squeezed ourselves into a pub just off Trafalgar Square, atmosphere was mental. Turns out one of the barmaids was Slovenian so my wife was being very (drunkenly) magnanimous during the game, but when Donovan scored she lost her shit and was celebrating in her face

IIRC it started the day before, then we watched some of the restart before the USA game. After the game we ended up at another pub and it was still going - we might even have watched another entire World Cup match. It ended up finishing the following day. Kilcline
What do our German posters make of Neuer being in the squad/coming out of international retirement? I know nothing about the other goalkeepers and my knowledge/experience of Neuer in the last few years has only been Champions League games, where he seems to have developed a habit of still looking like one of the greatest goalkeepers to have ever played the game, but is liable to drop a massive clanger or two, unless he just gets nervous playing Real Madrid. Will he play or is he primarily going as a leader?
