It's been particularly pleasing during my time here to have worked with Tim Krul and played a part in him rising through the ranks to become the Club's first choice goalkeeper and a regular international.

*snigger*

Wasn't he already first choice before Woodman and Pardew arrived?

Yep

Harper was wasn't he?

Krul became a regular the season we beat Sunderland 5-1 which was under Houghton.

Krul played more games than Harper in 2010/11 season.

Yes but he wasn't first choice. Which is why Hughton reverted back to Harper after he had recovered from his injury.

Aye. Harper played the Arsenal 4-4 for example. Was the beginning of the next season he was 'number 1'.

Sorry not Hughton but the prick who succeeded him.

Seems a bunch of old players are pushing for Harper to be our next Keeper coach.  Seen tweets from Given & Lee already which people seem to be wetting themselves with excitement over. Personally I'd prefer someone experienced and with a track record of success at developing players and a strong reputation in the game.

Yeah, having the passion and being a local means fuck all if you're a shit coach. If he comes here it should be to learn under an experienced coach. Best would probably be if he went elsewhere and learned the trade for now.

To be fair to Harper I think GK Coach is a bit different to other coaches in that the keepers work together in twos or threes and coach each other and we developed Krul and Forster during Harper's senior period. So I think we do miss him to that regard and he will make a good GK coach.

Harper has all of his badges. Used to coach in the same kids division as my mates team. Think he's up to the proper level too.

So does Woodman.

Somebody different, please.

 no more of this hiring someone because they are local shit.

If he has potential, he can do one and realise that potential elsewhere before coming to us. We aren't some learning school, we're one of the richest clubs in the world.

If another recently retired keeper who'd never coached was being suggested, this wouldn't even be up for debate. So the fact he's a Geordie is the only reason he's a contender.

He has already realised that potential with the coaching of Given, Krul, Forster, getting them all out in consistent form for 20 years.

Have you never seen a keeper train?

Fwiw both Given and Krul have mentioned the important role Harper played in getting them ready for match day.
