Nattfare
Yeah, having the passion and being a local means fuck all if you're a shit coach. If he comes here it should be to learn under an experienced coach. Best would probably be if he went elsewhere and learned the trade for now.
James
To be fair to Harper I think GK Coach is a bit different to other coaches in that the keepers work together in twos or threes and coach each other and we developed Krul and Forster during Harper's senior period. So I think we do miss him to that regard and he will make a good GK coach.

mattypnufc
Harper has all of his badges. Used to coach in the same kids division as my mates team. Think he's up to the proper level too.

captainhaircut
If he has potential, he can do one and realise that potential elsewhere before coming to us. We aren't some learning school, we're one of the richest clubs in the world. If another recently retired keeper who'd never coached was being suggested, this wouldn't even be up for debate. So the fact he's a Geordie is the only reason he's a contender.

captainhaircut
Superb. Liking the look of the coaching staff at the moment. All seem professional, highly regarded and experienced. Looking at the career paths of Smith, Cathro and Black and how they've worked to learn and develop is a stark contrast to those wasters Carver, Stone and Woodman. EDIT: Just seen the above about Harper coaching Given. Sensational that one. Not even sure why we're appointed a goalkeeping coach then- should have just let Krul do it. Dr.Spaceman
If this is the guy who taught Shay Given how to distribute the ball, don't expect Krul to improve.
Fenham Mag
In 2006, Smith moved to Vancouver to undertake a year-long secondment to research the biomechanics of goalkeeping and during this time he worked as a consultant to the Canadian Soccer Association.
