Getting pretty sick of the myth that Cissé is s**** on the ball. Aye, he's not a Drogba esque target man, but he can hold the ball up fine and got decent vision and passing ability.

He might not be shit on the ball, but his hold up play really isn't good. And his first touch is too often awful. That's why he's so frustrating. It's his position to lose, but I reckon Mitrovic will slot in nicely.

We can do better than Cisse. He has a dodgy first touch and that leads to him missing good scoring opportunities, which for a specialist finisher is a bit of a problem.

I also suspect he's not the most popular figure in the dressing room.

Peter Sutcliffe had aa more subtle first touch.

He has to be he worst player in the squad.

Come off it, man.

'if his first touch isn't a  shot then he's fucking useless.' squad player told me the very same and he trained with him every day.

Fiver says he's done more for the club than the squad player you spoke too ever will.

Luckily I've got eyes and don't have to rely on someone else talking shit behind his team mates back.

out of 10 how would you rate his link up play and first touch?

His link up play seemed pretty good when he did a brilliant lofted through ball to Obertan in the lead up to the second goal

His link up play isn't the problem, it's the runs he makes as emphasized by the graphic posted yesterday. Creating chances is a two way street, it needs your striker to be making the correct runs to open up space for everyone and Cisse doesn't.

Also doesn't help that two of the midfielders do fuck all with the ball going forward mind, but Cisse isn't completely blameless in the service he gets.

We wouldn't have survived last season if it wasn't for Cisse, there were a few games where he dragged us back into games to get a point or three all by himself. Hull, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Swansea and Burnley.

The correct runs are the ones which end up in a goal scored. We had Luke De Jong on loan making lovely runs down the by line but I can't remember him scoring any goals or winning any matches.

I don't have any evidence for this but don't we tend to create more with Cisse on the pitch than with any other striker we have?

Come off it  Look at any team and the striker's run is vital to what ever build up play they have, i'm not trying to criticize him but fact is if your striker isn't making the correct runs to open up space for the midfield you are likely not going to create much.

It doesn't happen by magic, look at almost every successful team in the league without their striker making the correct runs it would all fall flat on it's face. Why do you think Chelsea look like shit without Costa?

I knew that was coming. While I'm sure I would love to have Costa here instead of Cisse, until we sign him we'll have to make do with Papisse. Maybe Mitrovic will turn out to be that striker who not only scores goals but runs the channels too. I hope so, but put it this way, I'm quite happy to have Cisse here just in case he doesn't come off. Watching us trying to score goals last year when he was out wasn't much fun. Even though everyone was making the right runs with their lovely touches we didn't score many goals.

Eh i feel like i'm talking to a brickwall, it's not just about running the channels. Cisse does plenty of that, it's about coming deep running in behind etc etc there's more to making runs then running  i'm talking about general off the ball movement.

It's piss poor, chance creation doesn't magically happen with the striker being static with his movement and it's a two folded thing both the center forward and the midfield take criticism for it. I get the feeling plenty of you think if we have enough creative players on the pitch he'll magically get chances and it doesn't work like that.

Not being funny but he averaged 2 shots a game last year, which is absolutely pathetic and while the midfield take a huge bulk of the blame he didn't help himself. I have been extremely against the signing of Charlie Austin but he averaged 5 or 6 iirc which is what Cisse should be on as the main striker and the midfield isn't the only reason why.

I don't disagree with your main point, but on the 'shots per game' callout for Cisse, you have to remember that Cisse only played around 45 minutes for a lot of the games last season, in an atrocious midfield, under John Carver's atrocious system and as a lone - completely isolated - striker. Don't think you can blame him too much for that. Cisse's conversion rate was fantastic, I'd rather see efficiency in finishing than taking shots for the sake of it and giving away possession.

I'd rather he gives away possession having a shot at goal than by having the ball lost time after time after another bad first touch or it being easily taken from him, but each to their own. Based on what I've seen of him I'm quite confident that Mitrovic will prove to be a better forward to play off for our other players. Papiss has scored on average 7 league goals for us in the past 3 seasons, and I'm also hopeful he can better that as well.

I agree completely.

We will ultimately get into better positions and create more opportunities due to better hold up play.

Mitrovic showed some great presence even in his brief appearance on Sunday. Chesting the ball down and holding players off. Once he even then turned and started bullying his way past them.

Think he's going to be very good. Once he starts his first game, and is out there with our better players from the outset, no one will want Cisse back in there.
