Ivan Toney (now playing for Brentford)

Similar sort of goal record as Lua Lua at Colchester before we signed him. If he has a similar sort of spell here then £400k was a snip.

Loan interest:

Toney talk intensifies

Having secured the services of Mike Williamson on loan, Championship side Wolves are attempting to bringing a second Magpie to Molineux on a temporary basis.

Their target is reserve striker Ivan Toney, who has netted on each of his last four U21 appearances and remains keen to play regular first team football.

Wolves made an unsuccessful bid for Toney in 2015 when he was still a Northampton Town player and manager Kenny Jackett was present at United's U21 game against Derby County this week - having previously enquired about his loan availability.

However, Wolves could face competition from another club, with Burton Albion boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink attending Monday's game and keen to strengthen his promotion-chasing League One squad with Toney.

Why loan him out? There are serious doubts and no proof at all that Mitro, Perez, De Jong and Rivière can score the goals we need to stay in this division. Cisse is the only one who has shown he can score regularly, although it looks very likely he'll never do that again. Toney is promising, maybe he's the answer, sooner or later he's going to be playing if we continue like this.

As long as their is a recall agreement in place, they should send out any player out on loan if the opportunity arises.  They need competitive games to help them improve.

Toney has already had plenty of competitive games which is probably why he is streets ahead of his teammates but it would be good for him to get games in a higher division that he has previously played in.

With us, these deals often break down because the interested clubs cannot afford the salaries.  Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd etc seem to have no problem getting their players loaned out and they are likely to be earning loads more than our lads.  I can't see why we seem to be so petty about such things as if a player does well on loan it will be hugely beneficial to NUFC.
