Watford (A) FA Cup - Sat 9th Jan at 3pm (not on TV) - Pre-match thread

Looks like he's using the game to test something new, quite positive outside of Thauvin still not playing.  But I suppose he's hardly a wing back.

We played three at the back to counter Watford's tactics and it worked pretty well. I suspect it's just for this game, although no Ighalo might make it redundant.

Quite shocked at that team but absolutely buzzing we've shown at least the intent. Still probably go out like but it's step in the right direction putting out a strong line up.

Happy to see Mbabu back in, but he should be cover for Janmaat rather than our left hand side attacking fullback, albeit Haidara is injured.

Yip, can't defend to save his life.

But he better then Dummett, which I think is why people would rather him start.

Absolutely love that team! At last something different. The midfield with Sissoko and Wijnaldum pushing forward to support Perez and Mitrovic could be amazing.

Dummett as one of the three centrebacks also puts him in his stronger position, and the balance of the back three looks really good.

Happy for Mbabu too. He bombed forward amazingly well at left back, and should do even better as a left wing back.

Pretty excited now!

Christ, nearly playing a full 11 in their proper positions? Mental. Happy to see Perez and Mitro up top too

Not surprised Thauvin isn't starting like, apparently not McClaren's favourite person.

Man ... this is a huge game. If we look great and hopefully win, it could start the process of hopefully changing to a different midfield. Really need that midfield three to be amazing, so it will finally click for McClaren to play Sissoko and Wijnaldum central.

Could argue Thauvin in for Mbabu/Dummett like. In fact, no argument from me, that should happen.

Didn't Marseille play 3 at the back with Thauvin on the flank? So it's not like he's alien to working hard backwards either.

If we don't look great going forward today, I will be so disappointed. Mitro and Perez, with Wijnaldum and Sissoko pushing forward from central areas should be mouth watering stuff. Let's see if we manage to somehow screw it up.
