On the topic of their support, I went car shopping up Wessington Way today at about 2pm and it was absolute dead. Nothing that you could even begin to describe as typical match day traffic. The three or four double decker park and ride buses were more or less completely empty, so much so that my missus commented on it. She knows fuck all about football.

Naive question.  Read on Rtg.

You can't blame kids from Tyneside, mid Durham etc., for dumping us and following the mags . Thousands left us in the nineties and their kids help swell the St. James' gates now .

How much truth is there in this? Appears to be quite a sore point.. the Keegan side. Comes up a lot.

(Not from the North East. )

Ah, the old mackem myth that everyone supported sunderland and not Newcastle before 1992 and how Newcastle's attendances were terrible in the 80's compared to sunderlands, before Keegan came along...

Weren’t we in the 2nd Tier 1992 when they were in the Premier League? So even if 1992ers was true, which isn’t, then surely that would state that we all followed a club who were at the time in a worse position than Sunderland.

I’ve been accused of being a 1992 from my mackem mate (mostly as a windup), this from someone who was born in 1996, and not taking into account that I was born at the backend of 1989. How long is it going to be going on for? We have a generation of fans following us who were born after 1992.

Bullshit, if the inference is people from Sunderland saw the light (moved away from the light/shite?) in the Keegan era. Equally shite that there are loads of Makem accents in the ground and it’s (probably not unrelated) nonsense that people from South Tyneside and North Durham sound like they’re from Sunderland.

Obviously kids who grow up in ‘mixed’ areas will gravitate towards more successful ‘PL’ brand side. If you roll forward to a few years in the third tier, we will no doubt see the sensible saveable ones (probably SR3 postcode, for Metro ease and SR6 for Northerly mind clearing fresh air, will be first to wriggle free) drifting towards their regional capital.

I remember hearing in the 90s that the biggest proportion of current season tickets were from Gateshead NE postcodes. And there were relatively even more from South of the Tyne than North on the (then long) waiting list. Maybe in a decade we’ll see an increase in the SR codes.

Even if it were true, there was 5 years of great football that won us nothing, followed by 2-3 years of mediocrity, 5 years of challenging for Champions League qualification, then 13 years of going backwards more and more, including 10 years under a completely miserable regime that saw us relegated twice Any '92ers' that are still here, would have been anyway, and any that were there solely for any glory would have fucked off years ago because we've won nothing and never looked like winning anything for at least 16 years. [emoji38] Trying to insinuate that there are any Newcastle fans who are in it for the glory is like trying to insinuate that there are nuns out there who are in it for the sex.

Glad to see the Gibson thread has been used to try and justify Johnson again

This little nugget from dangermows:

Aren't paedophiles attracted specifically to people under age whilst Johnson was attracted to her despite of her age?

Oh, and doesn't paedophilia mean going with someone under thirteen?

and...

Johnson technically isn’t a paedophile. And death by dangerous driving (which he didn’t even do) is manslaughter

Another poster claiming he isn’t a nonce. The sooner the club is forgotten the better.

"It was horrible. The ground was like a morgue. Took may lads in the shop after, to get warm as much as anything, and cant believe the desperate sale on. Training shirts £3.99. Home shirts £7.99. Like a car boot sale of all your dead granny's crockery."

Jesus

Sky TV in cahoots with the North Sea and Kevin Keegan used to drive round Co. Durham in a mag van threatening the kids of loyal and ever present SAFC supporters into becoming mags whilst giving them discounted shirts to wear whilst out of their homes.

Despite this, said kids have still yet to attend a game whilst their MLF patriotic and loyal parents still trudge down to Sunderland every week.

 Causing death by dangerous driving and manslaughter aren't the same thing.

It is. If you take reckless/unlawful actions that results in someone dying that you never intended then that is manslaughter. In the U.K. murder is usually reserved for preemptive/planned/intented acts of killing someone.
