You wait until our window shuts and then you buy Ali, leaving Tottenham unable to strengthen after losing one of their best players. timeEd32 Posted August 16, 2017 Share Posted August 16, 2017 Much easier to say no to a player/agent when the answer is "we cant replace you so you can't go" as opposed to now where it's "there's not a lot of time to replace you." The first couple years may have some headaches for clubs trying to hold onto players but once a couple precedents are set it will be fine. This will force all of Europe to change the timeline on which they move in the market since so much money is coming out of the PL. Because of that I think it's very possible this starts a change across other leagues. UEFA may even decide it's a good thing to have final squads before the CL qualifiers. Offer is too good to reject but they're screwed until January. Spanish league closes end of May, the team who goes up through the Play Offs there don't go up until June. Why are they going to agree to shorten the space they can strength their squad just because a dozen Premier League clubs aren't happy? Situation is bollocks. Yay. Money rules football and the Premier League is swimming in it right now, but that just means they can look out for their own interests. There's a competitive issue with not closing the window before the season starts and the PL has every right to decide they want to fix that. And players seldom move from the lower English leagues overseas either. Whether the deadline is before the season or at end of August, the selling club could always choose not to sell if they can't get a replacement in. 35m for Carroll, new or old transfer deadline, we would still sell. At least with the new deadline, Liverpool and Southampton could settle the Coutinho and Van Dijk situations, move on and focus on their first match.
