nufcjb
God, I really can't understand how people can get on Rafa's back due to our awful start. Yes, it's been an awful start but it's happened because Rafa hasn't been backed and his plans have been shredded to pieces ever since the summer began. The man was so dedicated to the club and wanted to get us prepared early for this season that he didn't even go on holiday to get deals done. That f***ing t*** Pardew was enjoying his holidays by watching the F1 in Monaco during the summer and came back to the club to spout his usual, "couldn't get the deal over line' bullshit when we ultimately failed to get decent players in at the end of the window. Rafa has been an ultimate professional in managing the side and the politics that comes with it and having a fat f***ing c*** as his boss. The club really needs Rafa to stick with us more than he needs us to be honest. The club and the city has been in such a better state ever since he's been here. Even when things got tough last season and now, the majority of fans are behind him and the team and against Ashley. I could not see anyone else who can replace and be in the position that Rafa is with the supporters right now. It was a miracle he came to us in the first place, and even bigger miracle he stayed with us after relegation. Once he goes, this club will DEFINITELY be down with no way coming back up to its feet for a very long, long time.
Superior Acuña
Maybe Rafa has unsettled the players and brought negativity into the team, but if that's the move he's been forced to make in an attempt to get what he needs from Ashley, then I blame Ashley - any day. All of the above is true but ultimately what difference does it make whether Rafa stays or not? We aren't going to win the league, in fact with the state of our squad and the lack of investment we are more likely to go straight back down. Which leaves two cups we could try to win, one which we just fucked off with that horrible team that got put out. So that only leaves entertainment, I'd settle for an attack minded team even if it ended in a glorious failure, instead we have some inflexible percentage defensive crap that is terrible to watch. Of course, every fan would want us to be an attack minded team but is there any guarantee we would get that if Rafa is gone? It could be even worse. We could get humiliated on a weekly basis with some other f***ing mate of Ashley, in charge of such a crap squad that we have. How can we even have an entertaining team to attack when we aren't even able to get players of that calibere to the club?

The fact the 'system over style' stuff is served up by someone with such good values makes the difference for me. Proud to have him; isn't ever going to reach Keegan or Robson levels of entertainment.
La Parka
If he walks we are fucked. If he stays it will be almost impossible to manage this shower to safety. We're fucked.

Crumpy Gunt
I think he's killing time for the compo. He's not going to walk from the contract he's on. He hardly got out of his seat last night.

AyeDubbleYoo
That's just my feeling, it's not a definitive conclusion. Rafa's too good a manager. As shit as the start has been we could easily have got something from both of the games.
TheGuv
In regards to people being upset with Rafa (probably trying to make a point) last night. Wasn't he a bit like this with Liverpool with Hicks and Gillet? Can Wacko or anyone that remembers tell us about how he behaved at Liverpool during that time? STM
I think peoples meltdown gets to me more than anything. I do feel it's time to stick with the players. If we turn on them, well that's curtains, they will never recover. I'm not saying it would be the fans fault if we went down. I'm just saying that wr can play our part in keeping them up. Remain calm, for now.

Guest neesy111
The manager can only do so much, the squad is poor and lacks goals. Defensively we are making too many errors for my liking, if we don't keep a clean sheet on Saturday that would be poor return by use defensively to have no clean sheets considering the opposition we've played imo. Minhosa
He didn't sign up for a relegation battle. That's not what he's about and that's what he's in now. He'll be fuming by their lack of integrity re: promises.
Guest alijmitchell
Who the fuck is saying Rafa has unsettled players? The only person that has unsettled the club is Ashley. A new fixer, a bunch of unhelpful statements, a backstabbing MD who promises a lot but undermines the manager. If you guys swallow anything other than that you deserve the shite you get from this club Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If you guys swallow anything other than that you deserve the s**** you get from this club Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Yep, its exactly what they did to KK, Hughton and Rafa. Its not like theres no past history here. They also did the same with Allardyce when he was shouting in the summer we need to get moving on transfers as we are missing out on some vital players, he said the same in the January and was then sacked. Anyone that pushes for players and pushes Ashley to bring players in gets shuffled out the door.
samptime29
My biggest worry is we're too predictable. We're not flexible and we don't have different options about how we are going to set up. I'm not sure we have the players to play the formation Rafa wants. We still concede goals with this formation, it's not like we look super secure at the back. We have pace on the wings, and strikers who can head a ball. We've never seen the big man/little man partnership of Mitro/Gayle at all. Rafa clearly has a very valid point with Snide Ashley and the lack of investment, but IMO we're not playing to the strengths of the squad we have. 4-4-2 (especially at home) would work a lot better IMO. Rafa's already explicitly said there would be some tough times ahead and everyone, including us as fans need to stick together, and already a sizeable proportion of our fan base is panicking with some even starting to turn on and blame Rafa. Ashley must be fucking loving this. Makes me feel physically sick.

This goes to the heart of the problem with our club, when the manager can't buy (within financial constraints) who they want, and has to make do with fourth, fifth or sixth down the list. We've hired a world class manager who isn't known for being flexible in terms of strategy. If we're not going to give him the tools he needs we might as well not have bothered with hiring him. When Rafa came in I was hopeful, not just because of his track record, but also because it signaled change might be on the way in terms of control over transfers and funds being made available. Unfortunately it seems Ashley and his minnions are too set in their ways. I can't see Rafa riding this one out. As soon as he gets an interesting opening elsewhere he will be on his bike, and who could blame him?
