Telegraph: Rafael Benitez is weighing up a £4m bid for Nottingham Forest midfielder Ben Osborn. #NUFC

He sat next to Jamaal at school in Spondon

I played against them as a kid, not the nicest of areas like.

He apparently dressed as Shelvey for the Forest Xmas party. Better than Colback I suppose.

Understand £33m loan made available to Newcastle by Mike Ashley is NOT a transfer kitty. Intended to mitigate impact of relegation. #nufc

Strange timing if true unless it had to do with end of calendar year accounting stuff.

Club needs operating cash or club needs transfer funds from the Owner - pretty normal business, our own press / fans are obsessed with tracking this shit.

Aye, it's not as if there's an actual, literal "transfer kitty" that sits in a padlocked safe inside Rafa's office.   Money in the club is money in the club.

It's really the club's own fault (from prior handlings) because they've drawn so much attention to the balance sheet that now people are programmed to obsess over this.

Unless the rumours about the Sissoko fee being paid over instalments was actually correct?

It probably was paid in installments. They would still have to pay all the installments whether they sold him or not though

I was under the impression in recent years that we'd insisted on cash up front for all sales.  Could be wrong.

You are. We buy cash up front.

This....we pay up front to get a lower overall fee, but take outgoings in installments to ensure a good cash flow

NUFC 360 ‏@NUFC360 37m

Chelsea's Ruben Loftus-Cheek could stay put in the transfer window despite several clubs wanting him on loan, according to Sky. #NUFC

He's a good player, and it brings home that it's virtually impossible for a young player to establish themselves in the first team at that kind of club solely by coming through the ranks. He needs first team experience somewhere.

You'd think Everton might have smelled a rat after they signed Darron Gibson like.

I'd take Cleverley purely because he's not Colback, on loan, that's all. Would much rather we signed someone actually a bit good.

Gibson is actually a decent player when he's fit. Not mobile but has vision and a good range of passing. He was an important first teamer for us under Moyes and is more highly thought of than Cleverley by the fans.

He got frozen out by Martinez and hasn't had a chance from Koeman either, despite getting a new deal in the summer. I hope he gets a move somewhere in January after so long without regular football. Maybe join up with Moyes again or drop down to the Championship.
