Disco
Was Danny Ward any good for Huddersfield last season? Thought we'd be lazily linked to him this summer on a loan deal Yes but Liverpool don't want to loan him out again. Huddersfield already tried and failed. Didn't realise that, thought with them having Karius and Mignolet they'd be open to a loan
Yorkie
What's deeply frustrating is that Rafa is the only one being held accountable for the deadwood (in the form of a lack of backing) - even though his contributions to the pile are significantly more forgivable than Carr's/McClaren's/Pardew's. Hanley was an important signing who was usurped by Clark to many people's surprise, and Lazaar was just a punt - which should be allowed. Sels and Murphy were shipped out no bother. Mike Ashley should be putting that squarely on Charnley who is the only one remaining from the prior regime if he wants to be petty and take issue with it. Figures 1-0 Football
The club is moving in "different directions" is in relation to looking at multiple players, isn't it? Or does it mean that Rafa is trying to go in one direction but others in the club are going in a different direction? Without seeing/hearing what else Rafa said in addition to that, it's hard to put it into context.

The different directions means Rafa wants good players, and the club want to get rid of the ones we've got. I think that about sums it up.
HawK
If it was that bad you'd think we'd be willing to help subsidise wages on new contracts for the dross that we need to shift.
Altamullan
I read this as there are a couple of irons in the fire but there has been no coming together on prices/deals so we are looking elsewhere. Or less optimistically, we can't shift people to make space for permanent signings so lookiing for loans.
mattypnufc
Interestingly, Mark Douglas has just said that the first bulk of the PL money to clubs (for this season) has been paid today. Wonder if we'll see movement today/tomorrow?

Guest reefatoon
Hopefully that movement is Mike Ashley jumping off a cliff. would be pointless. Charnley would only jump off first to make sure he landed safely on his battered corpse.

Murphy was sold at a loss (fair enough) but Sels is coming back to us and we're paying a huge chunk of his wages... Not entirely no bother. Lazaar, Gamez, Diame & Sels were poor signings in hindsight, Hanley was decent yet we can't get rid, sometimes the market is tricky to judge.
xLiaaamx
Diame was a better signing than Hanley.
MSC26
Would love to know what the combined wages are for Krul, Lazaar, Haidara, Hanley, Good, Saivet, and Riviere. Expect it's at least £180k a week, which is over £9m a year. Most annoying thing is we hand out long term deals. Hanley, Lazaar should have been 3 year deals max. Designed to boost the squad for a promotion push and then leave, just like Daryl Murphy.

The long term deals put you in a strong position for selling high like Sissoko with the downside as you describe. The club simply has to view some of the cost of shifting your list of players as an offset on the excessive surplus made on Sissoko. I suspect MA would like to win on every deal rather than accept a loss and move on.

The squad got us promoted at the end of the day, obviously some players will have worked out better than others, but the objective was achieved. If Ashley somehow thinks he can expect a world class manager to be in charge of a struggling Premiership side then he's living in cloud cuckoo land. He'll either have to find some way of giving Rafa the means to build a proper team or go back to hiring shit managers and hope we don't get relegated. Happinesstan
Once Rafa has assembled the best squad available on Ashley's budget, Joe Kinnear should be able to guide us to safety.
