Bristol City 0-1 Newcastle United - 20/08/2016 - Post-match reaction from pg 21

I'm sure Sels said when he signed that he prefers punching and that Rafa doesn't want him to. If so he's probably playing against his nature at the moment and suffering for it. Hopefully he'll adapt.

Well he hasn't been responsible for any goals yet

Very true, like every new player to English football he needs time to settle. I don't like the flapping two hands instead of punching mind.

He seems to flap at crosses that he should be catching too, I know he needs to settle in but early signs are a bit worrying. Hopefully he'll grow in confidence if Rafa is going to stick with him.

That's the key, he'll get the support from Rafa. While Rafa is ruthless about his team changes, he spoke about Sels and him needing time to adjust, and how the GK's won't be rotated like outfield players are (in the league).

Think Rafa will rotate with his keepers too. Surely Sels has made as many mistakes as Lascelles to get drop?

He's already said he wont, in regard to league games anyway. If Sels makes errors and plays poorly he might be dropped. But as Joeyt has already pointed out, he's not been responsible for any goals yet, and isn't jittery enough for the defence to be nervous about him so far, imo.

Lovely goal like, one of those shots that are fairly close to the keeper and maybe wouldn't go in in the Premier League.

No, he hasn't.

Eh? He clearly has. Not that it means much, but hes v shaky atm.

He's not made any mistakes to lead to goals. Lascelles has made at least 1, and was arguably at fault for Huddersfield's 2nd too

Clark grew into it, not great first, better second. Back 4 did a good job, Anita did pretty well snuffing out a few crosses and not giving them much chance to get balls in the box-- did well holding up/winning free kicks late instead of giving it away.

Hayden looks dangerous from set pieces, could have scored a couple of headers today.. need to try and pick him out some more. Diame had a good first half, but looked knackered second.. Colback wasn't shite. Got stuck in, got absolutely poleaxed second half not sure how the Bristol player didn't get booked.. Still looks liable to give away daft free kicks, hands all over players still.

Sels doesn't look comfortable coming off his line like.. at all. Should have caught instead of punched late second and almost cost us.

Gayles finish was class, lovely through ball from Diame, that turn and shot was decent too, didn't realise it hit the post.

Bristol were pretty toothless, good to get an away win, but wasn't convincing

Looks like we soaked up a lot of pressure today. You could argue that we got a bit lucky that Bristol didn't get more quality in their shooting.

Still, very happy for the win and hope we keep building on this.

Right but is that down to him or the opposition? In just those highlights he palms it to someone while off his line and misjudges another. Dummett made a mistake last time they hit the bar from, he still sat on the bench today.

Im not that fussed, happy for him to have time. Id expect Darlow to get the cup game though.

This game sounded (had to rely on Radio Newcastle) like a hark back to our last start in the Championship. We weren't good but the opposition never seemed like scoring and we took enough chance(s) to win.

Was mental listening to Anderson. Their comments throughout the game were as though we were under the cosh, yet in the talk in show after he said we never once looked like we were in danger.

Thats exactly how a couple of mates who went described it.
