Stan battered 1-5 at home to Consett after starting with a bizarre formation which saw them 0-2 after 8 mins. Back in the game at 1-2 before conceding a ridiculous own goal before the break. Even game after that before the Consett left back scored an absolute worldie with a first time outside of the foot volley from outside the box.

Not sure if he was just resting players but some bizarre selections from the manager today.

Very good start to the season from South Shields going under the radar a bit. 5 wins from 5 and only one goal conceded.

Yeah, I was going to mention that earlier. I hadn't seen the National North table but saw they were 4 from without conceding, and even today, went behind early but turned it around. They ended last season terribly and seems Geoff Thompson is still owner despite wanting to sell it for pretty much all of last season, but a great start.

Not sure if much has changed, but I see they they have local (to us) striker Cedwyn Scott playing who spent the last 2 years in League Two.

Spenny started OK too, but seems like they are struggling to score.

Scott and Blackett is a very good strike force at that level. Obviously Heed had Langstaff as well but that was what delivered them the title last time.

Interesting that Shields average attendances are down about 300 from their peak in NPL and first season in NLN. A number of factors probably involved. Mid-table finishes together higher ticket prices - but also likely more crucially the change in fortunes of both NUFC and SAFC in that time.

Another win for Whitley Bay who move 4 points clear at the top of NL1. Kendal made a strong start and some fancied them for a promotion push after ending last season fairly strong, but they lost at home to newly promoted Horden who leapfrog them into 3rd. I'd prefer Kendal not to be promoted because they will almost certainly end up in the NPL West and it will be a bit of waste of a spot in terms of the North East and I want that NPL East division to have as many local sides as possible (probably lose 1-3 this season, the way some have started).

Newcastle Blue Star made a shocking start by their standards, but they got a big win tonight.

Had no idea Scott was there. That's pretty massive for them.

I think Alnwick are at Prudhoe week after next, might see you then  always a favourite ground of mine and I'll miss the University game this year so only real chance to get there.

Who have Prudhoe got?

Ashington drew 0-0 with Blyth Town in the league. Looking a bit grim for both of them, sitting 2nd bottom and bottom respectively, no wins in their 11 matches combined and Ashington have only scored 2 goals in their 5 matches. Still early days, but Ashington only just stayed up last season, and it always did look tough for Blyth T at this level who weren't expected to be promoted last season from the Northern League.

Wins for Blyth Spartans, as mentioned above, and also Consett, who have made a decent start.

Alnwick's wobble continued against top of the league Redcar yesterday - went ahead twice but ultimately lost 2-4 to a couple of late suckerpunches after their wind was taken away by a second leveller.  Can't get too down about it - they've had some rough games recently.

Long trip down to joint bottom Esh Winning after work on Wednesday; I'll start to get concerned if things don't look up there

Aye, I am as well.  I feel like I'll be regretting my decision to go about half ten on the way back

Can you actually get into the bar from inside the ground at Prudhoe or do you have to go back outside?  I've never worked it out on all five or six or my previous visits
