Fairly comfortable for Alnwick at Daahhlo Town today despite a couple of late goals for the hosts. Easily the worst Northern League ground I've ever been to

Thought you might have been there, was keeping an eye out for someone with a camera but no luck. Not much to take a photo of tbf.

Ah man I wish I'd known. I had to give the camera up now I'm an old man, carpal tunnel syndrome unfortunately.  I was the big fucker stood behind the goal alnwick were attacking most of the first half and down by the other goal where the kids were playing round the spare nets second half.  There were two Alnwick regulars in the same sort of place, I was the one with the hat rather than the one with white hair :)

Young Tino had Darlo well rattled today, was amazed nobody got sent off

Is that the regular ground by the way? Surprised they get away with it if so, not being able to get all the way around means it's not up to code as far as I know. That said Shildon is the same and they're Division 1

Ah never, gutted for you, liked seeing the NL photos on Instagram. We were also behind the goal that Alnwick were attacking first half, between the goal and the entrance. 4 of us, 2 in red, me in my grey coat and hat, and a young lad of 10.

Nee idea, we just went to tick the ground off, can't imagine we'll rush back!

Ah right, assumed they must have been your locals :) yeah it's definitely not one of the northern league's classic venues, saw plenty of places like that in the Northern Alliance and Billingham Synthonia's ground is similar (they play at Stockton Town's ground as I recall) but most of the NL grounds have a bit more character than that.

I'd have been stood just to your left most of the first half, was literally right behind the goal (safest place given the general standard of Alnwick's striking). Was it you lot talking about the number of players involved in 44 teams all playing in the Northern League at once, and having the conversation with the Hearts fan at half time?

Aye that was us! :)

The only NL ground I've been at which has as little character is Ford Quarry, home of Sunderland West End (we went there last season when CLS United played there as well but they've moved and renamed now). It's like today but also has a load of other games on other pitches going on around it, it's like being at a school complex.

I did Darlo Town this summer purely as it landed well with a 12 o'clock kick off at Earl's Orchard in Richmond which was more of a bucket list ground. Rubbish place to visit - as Wullie says cut from same crop as Ford Quary and Boro Rangers' ground. Funnily enough Whitley ended up drawing them in the Vase not long after which would have been a better reason but hey ho!

I completed NL1 on Saturday with a visit to Easington Colliery. Great backdrop views of the coastline and a 4-0 win for Easington. One of those that for whatever reason had never been able to get to with Whitley, so thought I'd just get it out of the way.

Four NL2 grounds left for me to complete the current line up:

Park View AFC

FC Hartlepool

Redcar Town

Grangetown Boys Club

Hard to motivate myself to get down to Teeside but should do the first two soon.

Park View is a peculiar one.  All purpose athletics venue on the back of the cricket ground, ball runs for miles when it goes out of play.  Collapsable barrier at the edge of the running track.  Paid £4 to park there.

Haven't been to the other three myself yet.

What are people's favourite nonleague places to visit by the way?  I obviously love Alnwick's oldschool setup but I also have soft spots for Esh Winning, dilapidated as it is, Billingham Town and Shildon, of the ones I've been to.

I used to love going to all the local (Durham area) northern league grounds when spenny were in that league.

Spenny’s ground has come on a long way over the last few years. Real decent ground these days.

the darlo one is terrible. Especially in the “away end”

Looked a good opportunity for Heaton to make it 8 unbeaten in the league and push towards a very unlikely playoff place at home to a Bridlington side who had lost 5 of their last 6 matches, but they were 0-2 down early on.

Redcar 1 up on Consett in the battle of the Steelmen.

Wow, Heaton 0-3

Stan couldn't live with the young centre forward Bridlington had last night, his pace and movement killed them.
