Yeah it's definitely a more visceral experience at non and lower leagues, I prefer it as well now. Don't agree with the shit the officials get but the fan Vs fan stuff can be absolutely spectacular

I massively prefer the Non League scene these days. Can get a season at Berwick for less than the price of 2 games sat in the East Stand at Newcastle and the overall experience is just so much better.

Since last season an elderly chap has been coming up to me at Berwick and intigating conversation, asking if I'm enjoying it, how I think the team are doing etc etc. A really lovely bloke. Came straight over to me on Saturday again, shook my hand, asked how I'm doing.....then I seen him again at the train station coming home where he stopped me for another chat. Found out on Monday through a Facebook post that he's a bloke called Eric Tait, he's Berwicks record appearance maker, and record goalscorer. They even have their corporate lounge named after him. Absolutely smashing bloke he is as well!

Aye I certainly think that's where I'll be getting my regular matchday football fix from now. I'll watch NUFC though the Firestick.

Did Berwick get relegated in the end or still in the league they were in last year? I'll definitely go back, I had a great day there.

Same league. No relegation this season either as the leagues are being restructured. They've had a decent start, beat Cowdenbeath 2-0 on Saturday and drew 0-0 away at Tranent on Tuesday, them and Clydebank are the 2 favourites to win the League so that's a great result for them. Started well last season as well though and it went tits up so nobody will be getting too carried away yet.

Yeah Eric is a legend. I used to work for his brother Alec who was also a legend in his own very different field, also a lovely guy

When does their season start? Think I'll prioritise a trip up there when alnwick aren't playing or are away somewhere shit

edit

Already started I see

Whitley 0-1 Stan on the Costa. Pretty even game in-front of just shy of 800. Early goal made the difference.

Enjoyed the game although both sides were understandably rusty. I think Pearson could make a massive difference for Stan this season, just what they needed.

Aye it was a pretty poor affair quality wise but added to the entertainment for me, thought Whitley deserved the draw tbh. Pitch being drier than the beach didn’t help either team.

Northern Alliance got underway at the weekend. Not the best of starts for Bedlington Terriers in their first match at step 7, lost 11-0 at Newcastle Independent. I think Independent have a bit of ambition and were one of not many clubs wanting promotion last season, and they play at Kingston Park, but there must still be massive problems at Bedlington.

Early season top of the league for Alnwick, after a disappointing opening day at Jarrow it's three wins in three with Euan Potts scoring consecutive hat tricks against Durham and Grangetown and just missing out on doing a Haaland with two tonight against Tow Law who were Division 1 last season. Apparently he's top scorer nationally at this level. They're playing really well

Not looking great for Prudhoe, lost 1-4 at home to Ryton, who played about 35 mins with 10 men, and they've only won 3 matches since November 30th last year.

A lot of Ryton fans there and 361 overall which was more than both Division 1 matches combined. Not sure if West Allotment groundshare and I know they've had a few issues recently, but they only had 68 there for their match.

Yeah Prudhoe were poor. Not a good start to the season results wise.

Obviously it's a derby and Friday night so a good crowd, but seems a much better set up and atmosphere these days with it being the Youth Club compared to when it was Prudhoe Town getting about 40 a week in.

Think West Allotment play at Morpeth now. Always been a bit of a Nomad club. In recent years I can remember them playing home games at Whitley Park, Druid Park next to the Airport, Palmersville and now Morpeth. Not sure if I've missed one out as well. Impossible to build any sort of fanbase when you're constantly moving around. Ideally one day they could set down roots in West Allotment Itself and then start interacting with the local community and start to build a support.

I'm at Workington Vs Whitby. Incredible old school ground that is scheduled for redevelopment soon. Get down before they do, it's like a time warp.

On the other side Whitley have decided to go on a title charge now I'm away for 6 months.

This Blyth situation is becoming ridiculous, although grimly predictable the moment that owner rocked up. Redcar had some money behind them on the NL but they're still newly promoted.

Surely they can't go down again? Spartans in the NL would be horrendous for non league football in the north east.

Harrogate Railway battled back to a 2-2 Vs maltby main. Maltby scored a beaut I'll see if the highlights go up today.

Railway have a winger (Harris Eggleston) who definitely should be playing at a higher level. Can't see him not getting picked up.
