Wallsendmag
Berwick Rangers 2-2 Bonnyrigg Rovers. Crowd 538. Brilliant game. Berwick sitting in 10th with nowt to play for, Bonnyrigg top, 3 points ahead of Clydebank with everything to play for. Bonnyrigg went 1-0 up, Berwick equalised. Bonnyrigg went 2-1 up just after HT, Berwick equalised. Berwick had to play the last 20 mins with 10 men but gave a great backs to the wall performance to get a deserved point. Special mention to the fans. Absolutely brilliant support for Berwick which did on occasion boil over at times including a skirmish at the end involving fans from both teams and the clubhouse was jumping afterwards. Really good day. £15 admission which also included a Scotch pie and a pint of Estrella incredible value. Just pay a tenner to get in if you aren't bothered about the pie and beer. Virtua Stiva
Is that 20 points that Gateshead have basically made up in about 6 weeks? Fucking madness
Big Geordie
Spartans went down 1-0 at Newton Aycliffe, with a rather limp performance. I believe Town won, so that pulls Spartans and Ashington back into trouble.
OpenC
Got to be honest, in a purely vindictive way and in the spirit of complete retribution and nothing else, I would love to see Spartans go down after depriving us of all our goals at Alnwick this year. My sympathy for them is limited can't see it happening now mind Edited March 29 by OpenC
Scoreboard82
I like this pic of the Blue Star keeper tipping the ball onto the bar on Saturday. 3-0 win v Penrith in front of a claimed 333 crowd but didn't look that many. Personally I came out of non league hibernation.
Paullow
Not sure what happened to Hartlepool tonight. Coming into their match with Wealdstone on the back of 3 wins, the opponents on the back of 3 losses and 9 points adrift of Hartlepool, ended up losing 7-0! Pretty much ruins their play off hopes. Fylde won at home to move 4 points clear of South Shields (having played a game more). I didn't realise Spennymoor were in such good form after getting ride of Graeme Lee. They are now level on points with the final play off spot, albeit with a -7 GD, but that's a very big match for them against Sputh Shields on Good Friday. There's a half decent chance that Shields could be 6 or 7 points adrift of Fylde ahead of their Easter Monday match with Darlington, which I might be going to. 2 leagues lower Blyth T and Ashington drew 2-2. Blyth move to within a point of survival, but feels like 2 points dropped with Ossett playing Brighouse on Saturday.
ponsaelius
Whitley pretty much guaranteed a home semi final in the NL play offs now. Shildon should still be massive favourites but they fucked it last season so you never know.

Shildon should still be massive favourites but they fucked it last season so you never know. It's been a while since I followed the Northern League properly, what's the deal with the play offs? From what I remember Northern League chanpions would often decline the chance of promotion due to finances, meanwhile if there was a team who did want to step up, they could as long as the champions turned down promotion (I think Durham or Blue Star went up despite finishing 11th or something back in 2008ish?) So now is it mandatory for the league winners to go up plus the play off winner?
ponsaelius
Yeah FA put a stop to teams refusing promotion. They're not allowed to do that anymore. Step 4 was restructured at the same time into three regional leagues rather than two, so the travelling isn't as bad anymore (the NL did try to argue that it should simply be promoted up a step as part of this reshuffle, but it was rejected). Many NL teams have been promoted since then, and you can see that NPL East is quite NE heavy these days (along with other teams with backing who have climbed higher). The play offs came in more recently but basically mean one team up auto and one up from the play offs. Play offs follow a single leg basis with higher ranked teams at home - same for the final. It's a positive as keeps the league alive when you have a runaway leader (quite often the case in the NL). The NL is obviously significantly weaker these days than it used to be, with so many big clubs now moved up, but it has probably strengthened NE non-league football rather than keeping the little kingdom to itself that the league was. Sounds good. I used to follow Whitley home and away back in 07-14ish and I remember during the era we won the 3 Vases in a row we couldn't lay a glove on Spenny in the league but they didn't want to be promoted until they had a sustained period of success and were sound financially. A lot of Bay fans were also happy to stay in the NL cause the cost of promotion would've been crippling, I think our derby would've been against Whitby! But yeah, looking at the team in the next 2 divisions up it's a lot more NE friendly
Pilko
That's a class point on the road for the Heed, 0-0 at Carlisle. Shame Morecambe and Eastleigh posted unlikely wins but still a good result.
ponsaelius
Eastleigh finished 3-3. Morecambe result is a shame, would have been done done if they'd failed to win I think.
Paully
Hebburn have got an unreal deal - pink army!
Pilko
Morecambe's run in is horrible, mind. Carlisle, Woking, Boreham Wood, Forest Green. They need to claw back 7 points more than Gateshead across those. Hopefully Brackley continue to be awful, we get a positive lot of results on Monday and it's more or less settled for the Heed by then.

Jinky
Fylde beaten in Nat North.......S Shields away draw at Spen takes them 3 point behind with a game in hand.
Paullow
On course for my second non league 0-0 in successive days, although that said, Dunston will be delighted they are still level as they could have easily been 0-3 down. Bradford hit the bar and Dunston's veteran keeper has made some fantastic saves.
Paullow
88th minute winner for Dunston! They improved a bit in the second half, but Bradford PA will still be wondering how they lost that. 4 point gap now in the playoffs race.
Big Geordie
1-0 win for Spartans at home to Sisden. Takes them 6 clear of relegation, with 4 to play. Ashington went down 1-0 at Hallam and remain 5 points clear of the drop. Next up for Spartans - local derby at Blyth Town, on Monday.
