Our away support

I don't think it's a problem with our away support, I think it's a problem with the whole of Britain. Years ago the amount of people doing coke was tiny so they kept it well hidden, now they're almost in the majority so they don't have to. And that's the issue I have - it's not big or clever and you're breaking the law, so at least pretend like you're going for your 5th s*** of the evening!

 

People don't do it to be big or clever they do it because they like the effect.  Same as saying drinking or smoking is big or clever.

 

B fuck off with breaking the law shit man .  You think people should not be able to take food from a bin because that is illegal?  Its an outdated law and a shit one at that.  The police were set up to protect people from other people not stop someone consuming drugs.  If they want to take drugs, drink or smoke up to them as long as they act responsibly and that's the key for me.  If everyone was blatant and said fuck the police we could regulate, tax, make it safer and invest money into treatment and education.

 

People drinking at a game is much more dangerous than someone having a pill.

 

Would you have an issue with someone doing some coke supporting the team and not being a prick?

 

Problem with this whole topic is the people who you notice taking the drugs and being pricks are probably normally pricks.  Its not the drugs transforming them into that person.  What the topic should say is Our away support full dickheads and lot seem to be taking drugs. 

 

Just to point out I could not be arsed with taking drugs at a football game as the drunken wankers would put me on an instant bad trip.

Good to hear, but have to say it didn't come over as anywhere near as loud as Derby and QPR (understandably). Hearing the fans who were at those gave me a huge sense of vicarious pride (whether there was a smattering of shit-faced little scroats or not)

Are drugs not just more fashionable now then they were before? I'd hazard a guess that a lot of other teams have a lot of drugs being passed around their away end too.

 

It's easy to get it into grounds, there is absolutely no drugs dogs used at matches and very easy to sniff a quick line rather than queue for a pint.

 

It's not just our away support, there are more and more drugs available to anyone on a night out these days.

Resurrecting this thread (cheers @HaydnNUFC) to move a discussion on fan behaviour from the mackem thread.

 

Not particularly a discussion about drug use, although that’s inevitably part of it, (so may need a title change any mods) but basically wondering if us becoming fucking mint (?) and tickets being like gold dust is going to improve the behaviour (particularly away) of our fan base?

I think it will. You see at games with higher loyalty point requirements that the support is better and there's no news hardly of bother. This may come with a slight negative though, as this may breed a quasi elitist group amongst fans with high amounts of loyalty points. I think the point system is fair fwiw, but I've already seen those with high numbers of points on social media take the piss out of those who don't which is totally uncalled for. I aim to get my ST back for next season and I accept I'll have to start again in terms of points but it's going to be very difficult to. It's why I want to see the club award loyalty points for any home FA or League Cup ticket that's bought, but that's another topic altogether.

Interesting point about the songbook. Can’t decide whether having the same fans, or a variety of fans each away game helps or hinders that? 
 

At Leeds there was a Chris Wood song being sung (granted mostly before he actually played ?) that was sort of (!?) fresh and clever. I don’t think that would have been sung if his first away game was at Southampton midweek. Will accept the accusation I’m being judgemental there tho.

 

Maybe I’m just a bit hyped up because Leeds was the last away game and it was soooo fucking good, but it just feels like games are going to be different/better than the last X years (and aye that’s probably cos we’ll actually be winning).

If there was a Chris Wood song it didn't come through on my stream and I haven't seen it on social media anywhere. Perhaps the variety of fans affects that but I still think it's naff. Probably an unpopular opinion but I personally think 'who's that team called united' is shite. Admittedly, probably because it's all we seem to ever sing and I've just gotten bored of it. We sing it during and at the end of every single game. Alongside the following

A player's name repeated

Eddie Howe's B&W army

Toon Toon B&W army

Newcastle (repeated)

 

I understand that some of those are staples but can we think of nowt better? Why doesn't Saint-Maximin have a song yet? Will Bruno get a song which isn't just 'Bruno' repeated over and over? Even Callum Wilson's chant is just Shearer's chant that we've always sung. One thing I admire (probably the only thing) about Man Utd's supporters is they still sing songs for old players like Cantona, Best, Rooney, Ronaldo before he came back this season et cetera. Why can't we? Sing the Terry Hibbitt on the wing song, we've got Mirandinha, chants about Ginola, Robert et al if we had any. Just makes it a tad more interesting.

I think who's that team we call United became really popular during Rafa's time as a bit of a symbol of resistance against Ashley, so I still like it. Old players do get a run out still tbh, Coloccini and O'Brien pretty much every game. I agree there's not much about the Keegan era players though.

Think that’s a really a really good point about the “who’s that team” song. Absolutely bourne out of defiance. In a way I’d like it to continue as we get better, as a big fuck you to everyone else.

 

Hopefully with introduction of better players and (please, please) better results, we’ll start to hear a bit more variety/imagination in our songs.

 

@HaydnNUFC you won’t have heard the Chris Wood song during the match as winning a header and a decent bit of hold up play doesn’t much elicit a song, but it went to the tune of ‘Raaafa Beniiitez’

It started away at Burnley in November 2018 where we won 2-1. But its been at literally every game since. You find a clip of our fans on YouTube after that point and guarantee they'll be singing it. Just like a bit of variation.

 

O'Brien, aye. Colo? In the pub away at Leicester last month his song was sung along with Lovenkrands and "do the Ameobi and you turn around" but never did it get sung in the actual ground.

Agree that the 'who's that team' one is crap. Was recently informed (on here) that the line I didn't know was "and we all know how to fight" and I think that's an absolute cringe, personally. Not that I'm sat here coming up with anything different.
