Danny Simpson won the league last year as part of the best defensive unit in the top flight. For me continuity of a team that knows each other and buys into the ethos of the team is paramount. I feel it's important we don't carry any players who aren't good enough or deadwood like we did from 2013-15 Would say it's important we finally get a quality left back and centre half alongside lascelles so we finally have a premiership worthy defence. No higher than 17th!? We aren't mackems man and the bottom half of the premiership really isn't all that. Our current defence is the best it's been in years and we have a decent goalscorer for the first time in a while. 3 or 4 quality signings and we'll be pushing top 8 imo. Agreed - NUFC are the experts at blowing safe positions...anyone who witnessed the Cup Final in 1974, the play-off v the Mackems in 1990 or the failure to win the PL in 96 would follow this line.
