Don't understand players trying to get the ball over the wall from really close in free kicks. Surely be better off kicking it really hard to the keeper's side

If you dip it over the wall with any amount of pace and/or the keeper has next to no chance, he's completely blind to the ball's path. Kicking it straight at the keeper gives them more chance to react, Shirley?

You would still be aiming to the side of the keeper. Getting the ball over the wall and under the bar from 20 yards or less with any pace is unbelievably difficult

I'm talking about free kicks just at the edge of the box. It's basically impossible to get it over the wall and down with any pace. If you kick it to the keepers side, you'll probably either get a corner or the ball will rebound out to the 6 yard box
