Whilst he’s on a great run I’d expect some output vs the big sides in our next three. That should confirm where we are in terms of whether we need a right winger in Jan.

If Gordon can keep producing vs the bigger teams and Murphy can be our flat track bully, I think we'll be Ok for now :)

Done more in two weeks than Almiron has done in 2 years. Already cult legend status we just don't realise it yet.

In fairness only one of them is ever playing in their preferred position. Almiron to my recollection has never been a RW.

He’s cultivated a good on-pitch understanding with Isak as well. The more they play together the better it’s been. This entire shift in the attacking dynamic with Tonali chasing back, Bruno advanced and Isak coming in deeper has provided more space and service for Murphy, seeing as to how defenders will be told to stay close to the two danger men (Isak and Bruno) and leaving the right wing with the space for Murph to exploit.

He's kind of out-Barnesing Barnes in that right wing position at the minute in that he doesn't look particularly good in general play, gives the ball away and can look sloppy yet is getting goals and assists at a pretty impressive rate.

Tbf today I thought he was a lot better and tidier in general play than of late, but my general point above remains.

Got to keep him in the side for now and he's done very well to marginalise Almiron, even when we buy a new RW I think he's locked his squad place down for the foreseeable. Eddie trusts him.

How do you explain to a football neutral Jacob Murphy? You really can't

Eh, plenty of players out there who are shit all game and then score. Lots of poachers out there with great careers based on that model.

Not that Murphy is shit mind, I feel like he's decent with occasional upside and it's just so damn fun when he's in form.

I don't know if it's this forum or a wider "thing" but you have players like Jacob Murphy and Almiron who go through purple patches, they're playing almost beyond their standard level because the manager has done a wonderful job with them and they've shown all the right attitudes as a professional and even despite this, folk are desperate to say how shite they are and yet they're playing beyond their general level of capability and should be applauded for doing so.

Then to the flipside you have Isak who despite being genuinely international/world class missing numerous great chances in recent weeks, and probably as a better comparison Anthony Gordon who is a winger who has also missed numerous golden opportunities this season, who isn't playing to his level of capability and virtually nowt will be said about him, simply because folk know the quality absolutely is there.

Might just be my perception, just what I feel I see, but it's nonetheless a bit bizarre to me. The former is far more credible, albeit even if it just in the short term view.

I know what you mean, but he's no poacher - when he scores, they're typically absolute beauties. But then he's not the classic lazy skillful winger either - he always tries his hardest and means the best for the club.

He's a puzzle.

Probably get £50m from him in January.

You joke but the reality is that if Murphy wants to add to his value, that's a great thing from our perspective.

He's absolutely someone who we could get money for.

I feel guilty saying that because I love the lad but we have to be ruthless when the time comes.

Murphy's got all the attributes to be a Premier League wide player except the footbaling IQ. He's at his best in a run of form and when he's playing on instinct. He does well against lower level Premier League teams and has always played better with Bruno playing higher and with Isak in the side.

why would you sell him when almiron is surplus to requirements and murphy is capable of a bit of form .. and i’d say more reliable as a back up if we sign another right sided attacking option?

Said it all the way through his career here. He had all the physical attributes to be a good PL player. Is faster than most, has a lovely right foot on him with great crossing and shooting. But for long spells, especially early career here, he's mentality was weak as fuck and played within himself a lot.

Have to give credit to Howe for getting the most out of a player most had written off if we're honest. No one would have predicted 2/3 years on from the takeover Jacob Murphy would be our starting right winger and performing well.

Now that might be also a negative on the failings of our transfers that we haven't upgraded that position in 2/3 years. But you have to try and get the maximum from your squad and he is definitely a player we are getting the most we can from and performs a role for the team that gives us better balance currently.

The weakness he gets exposed for against better sides is he's not very good at receiving a pass and controlling a ball safely away from pressing players. He's very bad at it.

But, when he has space to get his head up and receive the ball on the turn, or into space, or attack the goal, he's very good.

I think this is why he shines so much against the poorer sides and is sometimes shocking against the better teams who give him no time if he drifts inside to receive a pass.

I think he'd absolutely devastate the Championship right now.

In all seriousness, how do you chip a ball with a back heel? How do you get the lift?

Very talented technique, the explanation is that he heeled it downwards (and backwards) into the ground, so it bounced up off the ground and got the lift.
